Update to my previous post!!! I ordered some 3five H7 HID bulbs from theretrofitsource.com and all I can say is WOW!!!!! The light output is WAY better than the other ones I had on. My lights no longer looked crossed eyed like X on the road. They now go II and the light output is superb! For anyone with Gen 4s I would highly recommend these bulbs.

H7: Morimoto 3Five - HID Bulbs from The Retrofit Source Inc

Definitely go with a set of retrofits, and Morimoto or OEM style electronics and projectors. You wont regret it, they blow away the Gen4s (and 1,2,3 ) A quality set of retrofits isnt cheap($550 and up) but dont skimp, they will last just as long as your car if you do it right, once.

Hate to but in, but I have been reading this and I am curious what is the difference between Gen 1,2,3,4 and retrofit? Is there a thread or a sticky? I have poked around a bit trying to find this but have not been sucessful to date.

Go back to the appearance section, look at the sticky by me. It shows the different gens, at least what they look like. If you wanna see retrofits there should be a retrofit sticky as well. If you can afford te extra cost I highly recommend a set of retrofits, the performance of retros is on a whole other level than the cheap eBay projectors. Stick with the 4300k - 5000k color temp, you won't be disappointed with the performance.

I just installed the Depo Gen 4s and couldn't be happier. The Depos came from Modern Performance and the HIDs are 4300k Kensun's from Amazon. Cost $255 total. The install took about 1 hour. Easy to adjust. I haven't seen the retrofits in a Cobalt, but mine compare very favorably with my co-workers Acura. I couldn't be more pleased.

I don't have a good wall to show up in pics. When driving it is like having landing lights! They light up at least 4 lanes much further up the road that the stockers. Drove around a couple of hours on New Years Eve with no flashes from oncoming traffic. Very sharp cutoff adjusted 2.5" below center at 25'

You have to aim the depo projectors when you get them!
