DIY tint

i've been considering tinting my windows but hated the idea of paying some yahoo 350+ for work i can do myself. i've installed my intake and catback and i figure tinting couldn't be rocket science in comparison. has anyone ever done their own tint and what advice do you have. also i plan on getting this kit. from the looks of the materials and warrenty i can't go wrong for the price.

Snaptint.com complete Cobalt 4dr kit

IMO tinting is something that is best left to the pros.

take your time, have a friend help you... tint is VERY easy to mess up, and when it's not done properly, looks like ass

my opinion on DIY tint?

Dont.

pay the money and have it done right. this is not something that you can do "on the cheap"

Pay someone to do it, honestly. On my cavalier z24 I had, i bought pre-cut tint on ebay, and tried doing it myself. The cuts were right on the money, ill give them that, but it is very hard to make it look good. The side windows are not too bad, but the rear, is a bitch. You need to use a heat gun to shrink it, its not worth it. I ended up taking it off, and had a guy do it for 100 bucks. Once I got my SS, same guy did it. 100 bucks, all 5, took him about 30 min. Looks EXCELLENT.

o, and you can't compare doing your own tint to putting on an exhaust figure this, if you DO make a mistake, then you're out the 70 something dollars, and still have to pay for someone to fix it

Its not that hard to do, but making it look nice and right is trickey.

I helped my dad tint the windows on his MACK work truck, it turned out decent with a few bubbles here and there, but it can slide in a vehicle like that. See noone is gonna be checking out his big rig, while people will look at you Balt constantly. The Balts windows are at eye level most of the time, so if you mess up it will be obvious. Personally I would wait and save up to have a pro do it, that is what I am doing. However it is up to you, if you think you can it, and have it look halfway decent, more power to you. Just be prepared to squigee all them damn air bubbles.

350 bucks? That tint better be made of pure gold. I got fully legal tint installed for less than 150 after taxes on my cobalt. It looks great.

Definately have a professional do it. And DEFINATELY shop around some more.

Woah missed that part of OP's post. No wonder he wants to do it himself; I don't blame him. Yeah, definitely shop around man. I'm sure you can get a much better price.

By all means shop around and get a pro to do it.
You dont want the headache of doing this your self. it is absolutely not worth it.
Good luck however you do it though!
