Does anybody have pics of how to remove stock manual shift knob?

Hey, got a new shift knob and it seems like the stock one is pretty difficult to get off? Anybody got any pics or anything? Thanks.

i dont have any pictures buy i know how to do it. you have to pop the top ppiece of that has the gears engraved on it. if there is a screw under it, remove it, if not even better. the knob is splinned onto the shifter stick. you have two options really...either pull up on the knob really hard until it decides to come off or use two small screw drivers and insert them under the knob between the knob and reverse lock out on the sides of them. start to pry up on the screwdrivers, this should force the knob of with some force by you ofcourse. you will put small notches were the screwdrivers were on the the plastic reverse lockout tab. but once installed under the knob, you cant seem them.

I don't know if you have a SS/SC or a 2.2 or what year or anything... But for my 2005 2.2, all I had to do was turn the top of the shift boot (where you can feel a ring going around the knob connecting it) clockwise a bit and you will feel it detach... Then you pull down on the boot so you can actually see the metal rod that the knob is on. After that, just pull... hard... but make sure you pull straight up so you don't break off one of the plastic tabs like I did.

I think that's all there was to it... Don't have any pictures though.

Again, that was for my 2005 2.2L Cobalt LS... Can't be certain about newer models or SS/SC's, but I didn't have to pop off the cap and use a torx wrench or anything.

If you install a new momo or sparco shift knob, does the reverse thing stay or can you buy aftermarket?
