The DTS Mod
So I was at work the other day (I'm a valet), and noticed something.. All of GM's door lock knobs are very similarly sized.. That same day, I previously did the "elite door lock pull knob post haxorz mod".. In a nutshell, you hack a bit off the top of the door lock pull knob post under the door lock knob to shorten it to give the lock knobs a more tucked appearance.. It looked good.. I had the formed part lined up to the trim ring perfectly.. However, in a new style Cadillac Deville DTS, I noticed that they didn't use the normal GM door lock knob that tapers in, but instead, it's a full sized jobber with knurled bumps where you'd pull on instead of the tapered area.. Not that it's a big deal, but it's something different.. I also figured it'd match the chrome door handle on the inside of the door, as well as the other random chrome trinkets inside.. So a quick trip to the nearest Caddy dealer and a few days in slow GM parts shipment later, got me a pair of factory DTS lock knobs for a little under 20 bucks.. A 10 second install on both sides in the parking lot and voila.. Instant DTS mod.. Not that it's a big deal, but it's something I've never seen anyone else do.. I'll get a picture of it on my car tomorrow.. For now, the best I could find is this general DTS interior pic.. You can make out the door lock knobs somewhat..

Just go to the dealer and ask for 2 (or 4 if you've got a sedan..lol) interior door lock knobs from a 2008 Cadillac DTS, and that'll be them.. They're like $8 a piece.. Most dealerships probably won't stock them, but they should be able to get them in quickly.. This will be simply known as the "DTS Mod"..

haha You really don't need a how-to.. To shorten the lock knobs, just remove the stock black lock knobs, use any tool that will hack through a little bit of metal, and shorten to desired height. Then, for the DTS Mod, just order two (or four) DTS lock knobs, remove the stock ones, and screw the new ones on. If you have everything handy, this mod will take 5 minutes max. But if you insist on a how-to, I'll make one.. lol.
I did notice though, that these DTS lock knobs are a little longer than the stockers.. So it basically takes the lock knobs back to the same stock-style height.. It at least seems that way to me.. Definitely not super tucked anymore.. But you might be able to actually cut the DTS knob down a little to make it tucked again..
I really wanted to just use the factory style knobs but in chrome from the HHR, but at the Chevy dealership, you had to buy the post too, so it was $40 for both instead of $20.. Boo..
I'm going down to get a pic now..

You knew they were gonna be chrome? lol
Actually, in person it looks a bit different. I've seen those cheap-o ones from Pep-Boys on our cars, and they look really bad. The chrome is gross and cloudy and the quality isn't there. But on these, the chrome is really bold and bright and exactly OEM fitment. That's why I got these..

See, I have a slight chrome accent thing going with my factory stuff.. gauge trim rings, ac knob accents, shifter button, inside door handle, etc PLUS my emblems.. I removed the rear bowtie, but the front ones gold center part is now flat black.. It all works out..

Gotya.. It's not that it's something that will be for everyone.. But I really enjoy doing totally off-the-wall things that no one else thinks of doing.. Especially if I can use other OEM parts in the process.. Then I'm just out-smarting GM..
like i said there is already a how to on lowering the locks.... https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-guide-43/how-lower-your-locks-132217/ for those that need it. ps i'm not digging it, i thought it would be diff form you explaination... just not my style i guess but different never the less.

Again, it looks different in the picture than in person. It looks extra bright in the picture. Not that way in person. But honestly, I don't much care if anyone else likes it. lol. I do. But regardless of it you like it or not, no one else thought of doing it. So that at least gives me a +1 for creativity..
