Durability of high-rise wing (D81 aero wing)
I have the factory equipped high-rise wing (D81 Aero Wing) on my SS/TC and I cringe every time I use the trunk because the wing just flaps violently when I close the trunk. How durable is the wing? I'd suspect GM designed it to flex since Heinricy took it out on Nurburgring numerous times and the wing hasn't flown off. But in terms of long-term usage, how durable is the wing? Has anyone had the paint flake off or the wing snap off? How is it designed or constructed? Should I just toss my backpack and gear into the backseat area?

it's designed to flex actually - and is functional - remember these cars where designed for autocross - for drag racing its best to remove the wing- since its not rear wheel drive and it add's like a hundred pounds of drag at 92 miles an hour- some where in the forum is a thread talking about this

Y should take your car through a car wash with the big blower things, and you'll cry. lol. I've had my car up to 140 and it didn't fly off so I think your good. They do seem cheaply made, but I've never heard anyone on here breaking theres. Not to say it hasn't happened, but I'm on here quite.

The only thing to watch is for the two-sided tape seperating from the trunk deck, you'll know if it does. I never lifted the trunk open with my TC, but after having it for 1.5 months I noticed it was banging a bit when I closed the lid. Sure enough, if I pushed up on the support slightly there was a gap between the deck and the footing.
It was repaired under warranty and is sticking much better now. But as for stability of it itself, I think you'd have to really try to snap it in half or warp it to hell.

its nearly impossible for that wing to come off by itself. its held down by 4, i think 10mm bolts(cant remember what size they were) and alot of glue. I got my car up to 240kmh and it never came off, only time it came off is when i spent 2 houts taking the damn thing off.
