Dying Stock Seat Covers

This was brought up in another thread, but I figured we could ask it here to find out if anyone has done this.

Has anyone taken the seat covers off and dyed them black?

Some of the things mentioned in the painting seat thread about dying the seat covers were that when you dye fabric you need a warm/hot temperature. That being said the seat covers may shrink/distort, making so it will not fit or it will fit poorly on the seat. Also mentioned was that some fabrics will not take dye. If any one has tried it let us know, and show us some results. This may be a cheaper option them getting the seats recovered.

Doubt it but if you want it done I'd say leave it to the professionals. That way if it gets fucked up its on them.

Thats why i'm gunna pull a seat cover from a wrecked car. First I'll test it to see if it will dye the seat cover and see how it looks, then I'll test the fitment.

It's fool proof

When I say dye I don't mean paint. I'm going to try the RIT dye first, using a washing machine (laundry mat of course) and hot water. It would be rather hard to actually dye just the center.
