Thumbs up E-brake handle

I saw a detailed picture of the e-brake handle assembly from the GM parts catalogue and Im happy to tell you that the platic cover is easaly removable and under this one you have a standard metal e-brake but I don t know if we can put an aftermarket cover like momo on it.If someone would try to remove it to replace it with something else please tell me if something works or if we can t put an aftermarket handle on it.
Thank you

If you look underneath there is a little hole/notch. If you try and pull off the handle, a tab sticks out of the hole. I think it might be a catch of some kind. Try pushing in on it, with a screwdriver or something of that nature, and pull the handle off. I think that should work, but I haven't tried it yet.

I hate our e-brake handle. It feels so cheap and flimsy. I guess its just the plastic.

I baught a custom ebrake handle from ebay "specifically designed" for the cobalt SS. Took the ebrake apart, then theres black plastic around it, the new ebrake handle still wouldn't fit over that, so i took that off (in pieces), figuring it will definatly slide over the button and bare metal..of course it didn't, So I put it all back together, except the black plastic which I couldnt, so now of course the ebrake feels funny when in use.

I think it's time to post my first bad remark on ebay.

Didn't wan't to bother starting a new thread for this.

When your E-brake is down, and you pull it up, does it come up about an inch really easy before it hits the first rachet???

I just noticed that on my car today. When it is down, you can lift it with very little force, until it reaches the first ratchet! Then it requires effort to lift it until locked. Is this what everyone elses is like, or does mine need an adjustment?

Thanks. I was like WTF when I noticed. It is so loose in the down position it could almost engage if you go over a bump on the road! Most other manual cars I have driven, you need a fair bit of effort to pull it up from whateer position it is in.

Silly design... That is the worst part of the interior!

I would say that is probably not the case for most. Sounds like you may need an adjustment, and I am betting it would probably be covered under warranty.
