el lighting.

Has anyone on here messed with EL lighting? Like El wire or films? What are the cons and pros of the stuff? Last year I did do wire around the inserts in my doornpanels and it looked awesome! Then after several months the wire started having dead spots and some parts even glow different colors. Idk if its from the heat of the summer(black car) or what?

i have about 3 years ago. i did the door sill mod which was putting a el panel under the mrz door sills.
it was a pain in the ass because the strips kept getting shorts. but it was cool when it actually worked

i ordered them from Glowhut.com i have 2 brand new el panels in red if you want them. you'd need the invertor boxes inorder for them to work.

http://www.glowhut.com/12-volt-dc-in...e--el-pan.html

you would need 2 of these inorder for them to work.

they sell a package now as well

Never actually seen it in person but i always liked the idea.

I was driving a 2011 Audi A8L the other day, and it had a similar design ion white around the roof and door panels look AMAZING!

Damn if they were orange I'd take them.off your hands. The el wire in the pics is orange and my car is black going for the orange and black theme. I was gonna buy more and run it in the back pside paneling where the groove is but the doors did that and I lost faih in the stuff. Its epoxied in. First time I did it I used silicone and didn't hold then contact cement and that was fail as well. I thought about doing white but the white el wire is acpper wire color when not lit so it would look bad when not lit. At least colored el wire still is colored when not lit.. I think the coolest thing someone could do would be make racing stripes in their car with el panels and resin and clear over them. So during the day they just look like stripes but at night they would glow.

Never seen this before, looks awesome though! I've seen the mod where a guy put the wires behind the dash trim and it looked really good as well

that looks friggin terrible, it highlights how shitty our trims put together, any little bump and it shows even more with being back lit.

So this is just an el panel underneath the mrz sill plate? It looks freaking amazing, do you have it wired up to light up with the dome light or something like that?

you gotta tap into the door plungers so the el panel's turn on when you open the door.
thats what i did. i used 2 relays as well.
only problem i had was the routing of the wiring for the el panel to the invertor. u have to route it up inbetween the weather stripping. and from closing the door and getting in and out the wiring got cut and it shorted out.
happend on both sides.
i ordered new el panels put em back in it happend again a few months later. i ordered new ones again and never got to putting em back in and i said screw it. all my wiring for them is out of the car. my invertors are destoryed as well. so im not going to bother with it again.

i have 2 new el panels if anyone wants them red.

I drilled holes under the plates and ran the wires that way. im a stickeler for a clean install.

I will try to take a pic of the relay box I made up for these.

I like that a lot, if it didn't have dead spots. Kinda similar to the Camaros and Malibus, is it not?

Idk what you mean... it looked great after i did them and did for a few months.I also ran the wiring through the rubber flexible things where the door hunger where the rest of the wiring for the door goes. That took a long time and was a complete pain in the ass. And put quick disconnects between the wiring in the door and the wiring to the inverter in the dash so if I needed to remove the door panels for anything its easy.

I mean the door panels in Camaros and new Malibus have blue light tubing running along the door panels in a similar fashion. At least the one Camaro RS and two Malibus that I drove did anyway.
