Fiberglass vs. Polyurethane vs. Duraflex
Fiberglass vs. Polyurethane vs. Duraflex
Has anybody with body kits had issues with the fiberglass kits. Also the same with the Polyurethane(if there are any) and Duramax kits...... Trying to weigh out the pros and cons. The body kit i want is Fiberglass but im wary of using it.
From previous experience i like polyurethane kits. Fiberglass kits are sometimes warped and harder to get it to fit correctly. Also when in an accident fiberglass will pretty much shatter. However fiberglass is lighter than polyurethane. Polyurethane is thicker, stronger, and heavier. It can withstand an accident and doesn't warp as much making installation easier. As far as Duramax, I have never used it or heard much about it
I manage a collision center and have lots of experience with body kits. My advice is DO NOT DO IT. No matter who you by the kit from, they all fit poorly. They all require a fair amount of work to get them to look striaght and line up properly and some of them do not fit at all. Body kits look good in pictures, but usually look pretty bad in person. I have only seen a few good body kits in my time and that is because they paid damn good money to have them installed. It really isn't worth the trouble. trust me.
It is not painted or installed yet from what your signature says. You are going to learn the hard way. It does look so bad when you go to mock fit it, but when you go to get it painted you will see. I will say nothing more on the issue. Just wait and see. I feel sorry for you.
As far as durability goes, the poly would be my choice. Ease of repairability, fibreglass is the choice there. But with my own expierence with kits as mentioned above it is sooooo hard to get a kit and make it look good when you actually stand in front of the car. I have however had pruchased both poly and glass products from Wings West and had absolutely no problem with fit or finish. But I dont even know if the company exists anymore.

I got a fiberglass kit from Extreme Dimensions and would never buy a kit from them again. It took a crap load of work to try and get it to fit properly and even when it was finally on it never looked right. Stay away from them
I had a polyurethane kit befoer and the fitment was off but the one thing i liked about it was i had a minor accident and besides a scuffs that needed to be filled it was ok.. im pretty sure the fiberglass would have cracked. Im still up in the air.. may just get the lip kit to look like the SS models...

How much you pay? I wanna just get a back bumper installed because mine was scraped up in an accident? How much do you think il pay for just the back? I want it to fit perfectly.
IMO, I dont like body kits....i preffer to do minor stock body changes that are less subtle..
ex. on my SS rear bumper, im doing a secondary exhaust cutout which matches the original to a T (same lip curl and all)...
the only real body stuff im going to do is hood and fenders....
