Foglight and Dimmer switch removal

Greetings, I've been trying to remove my trim pieces in order to paint them to match my body color. I've been following the How-To's on Painting your dash, and removing your dash pieces, however I've got one piece left that I cannot remove...

The piece to the left of the steering column, contains both the FogLight switch, and the DashLight Dimmer. I've managed to unclip this piece, however I can't seem to get either the foglight button, or the dimmer control out. As you can see in the pictures, I've managed to get the majority of the Dimmer control out, but I can't quite get the rest. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong, so that I can get these pieces apart and finally begin my dash painting.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

put your dimmer switch back together as there is a connector that seperates from the pieces by lifting up on a tab and on the trim piece where the dimmer switch is on the sides are 4 clips. you'll have to work those clips and the dimmer piece with come out. the fog light switch there are 2 tabs on the side of it. press those in and the fog light switch will come out.

The foglight switch is actually 'out' but the button is too large to fit through the hole so its no longer connected to the trim. It seems like it must come apart in the middle or at the wires somehow to pull the larger part 'forward' and the wiring part 'back'.

Actually, this seems to be the case with both buttons. I think the fronts need to come off somehow so that I can push the entire assemblies through the back.

no i'm telling you, you do not have to take the switches apart. do what i said and they will come out, the dimmer one is a bit of a pain but it will come out without dissassembling the switches trust me dude

U have to push them outward without disassemblng them. Those buttons "snap" and there's tabs to push in

Ok so I just went out and tried again... I put the dimmer back together and wrangled the tabs with a screwdriver.. I broke one off, but managed to get the dimmer out 100%. No big loss.

As for the fog switch, I know the two tabs you speak of, but they only release the assembly forward. I looked closer and there is no way the button and bezel will fit 'back' through that trim piece, it has to come forward somehow. I have an `05, perhaps its different on this model. Would you like me to provide a zoomed pic of what I'm seeing?

As a side note, I would like to change the LED while I've got everything apart, so disassembling the switch isn't a big deal, as long as everything comes apart.

you see on the trim piece the 2 little indents around the fog switch, i can't remember how but you have to match that up and the switch pulls out.

The indents are for two tabs on the switch, they align so that the switch doesn't turn in the socket. Those two tabs to release won't actually lock into place unless the switch and trim are aligned.

That fog button just pops outward and then u disconnect the harness. There's no other way to explain. Just look at and figure it out. Everyones took it off to paint their trim

Here's what I have so far:

There's a tab by my thumb which appears to release the entire switch in half, however I've not had any luck in doing so.

Sorry for my newbness, but I'd rather not break any switches/buttons.

I've lifted that tab with my fingernail, but for the life of me cannot remove the harness. I'm going back out with a pair of plyers to try a little more forcefully. I shouldn't need to mess with the white tabs, correct?

no leave the white tabs alone. and ya you have to lift up pretty good without breaking it and pull at the same time.

Alright, I got it off with a pair of pliers.

Thanks to everyone for their help! I do appreciate it

As a tip to anyone else planning this project: Don't touch the Halogen bulb in your dome light, its frickin hot!!
