Front License holder. How to remove it ?

I just picked up my new 06 Cobalt SS/SC Laser Blue today, I live in Michigan and they had to bring it in from Ohio. Picked it up with 282 miles on it.

I guess in Ohio you need the licence plate on the front so it's got that awefull looking black plastic licence frame thing on the front where a plate would go, any idea how to get that damn thing off? It's some wierd 3 star looking tool, almost looks like its rivited on =( I took a small flathead screwdriver into it and all it does it turn. Anyone know how to remove it?

Thanks

Yeah, I tried removing mine, but couldn't. I did a search on this, and the best I could find was that someone got them out by drilling them.

Yea Im pretty sure that they are rivets, and the best way is to drill them. I havent taken mine off because I am one of those unlucky Ohio guys haha. I think I read about the drilling somewhere too.

When the car come from the factory, the front plate holder isn't attached, due to all of Canada, and a few states not requiring one. So the dealer rivits 3 "screw" holes into the front bumper. You have to remove the rivit holes from the bumper, but then you have 3 big holes that have to be filled. If you JUST picked it up, like with in a few days, call the dealer and see what they will do for you.

Dealers sometimes will bend over backwards for you to help you out at first.... well at least untill you fill out the customer satisfaction survery GM sends you shortly after you get the car. The dealers get better incentives from GM sometimes if you check completly satisfied.

Ex: I have an apointment to get my rims swapped out, because when I got the car, there were a few light scrathes on them. Looks like someone scrapped em on a curb then the dealer tried to buff em out.

holes

They have to be drilled out. I did it on my car then got some plastic plugs from the hardware store, dipped them in paint and pushed into the holes.

I used accessory plugs from Adv Auto parts. similar ones that hold your carpeting to the underside of your trunklid

Then paint them your body color, and plug them into the holes in your bumper

Some dealers screw them in, most use rivets. If you can’t unscrew them, just drill them out from the front.

As mentioned, if you have not yet filled your customer satisfaction survey, the dealer will most likely take care of it, especially if your state does not requite it.

Good luck
