Are they the same shape? they look pretty damn close, and i see listings on ebay as Cobalt sedan/G5.

I want to know if they are the exact same physical dimensions. Thanks for the help.

I believe there was a discussion related to this, people were wondering if the trunks were the same, they are not. So it would stand to reason that the tail lamps are also not the same shape.

 

are you positive? have you tried fitting them?

i know the trunk on the coupe cobalt is defferent than the coupe trunk on the G5, but it looks like all the rear ends on G5's are the same trunk/tail lights anyway.

I am thinking about swapping rear ends to a G5, but i don't like the reverse lights down in the bumper, thought this could be an alternative.

 

Coupe rear is different than sedan rear. Wiring would be slightly different considering the sedan tails have reverse in them, but that doesn't really matter. Hope over to G5club and ask there, a bunch of those guys have tried and failed.

 

I know the trunks aren't the same bit on eBay they do say they're for both. I don't think the trunks have anything to with it. They're just shaped differently at top

What did they try to do at g5club.

I think it'll work. If you look at the top edge of the cobalt coupe and the g5 they both have that edge. The spacing between the top corner of the bumper by the 1/4 panel is the same as the g5. The line in between them is the same shape and distance

 

i keep looking, and it looks like the G5 lights have a more agressive downward curve, and the Cobalt Sedan ones have a more agressive upward curve...

Damn. Looks like i'll be using my LED idea.

The Cobalt and G5 coupe trunks are the same, the only difference is the fact that the G5 trunk has no reverse light holes.

The tail lights between the G5 coupes and sedans however are not interchangeable. The trunks are shaped differently, therefore the lights are shaped differently as well. They are similar, no doubt about that, but not the same. Look at a coupe trunk and you'll see the sides are a lot straighter than a sedan trunk, meaning the tail lights have to follow that same shape. The eBay auctions you're looking at are very likely referring to the fact that Cobalt sedan and G5 sedan lights will] swap with each other, as they are the same light.

I beleave they would fit, except that G5's reverse lights are next to the lisence plate rather than inside the tail light

 

i know the lights are in the bumper, and i am swapping to a full G5 rear end, i don't like the reverse lights in the bumper though, so i'm trying to find a way around it

 

only the sedans dont have the reverse lights in the rear bumper, but they also have a different trunk from the coupes and tail lights to.

ah, oh well, i kinda like the solid look of the G5 cpue tails. I'll do LED's someplace for the reverse lights. Those will be easy to hook up.

i see. acey's right. they wont fit. look at the bottom left corner of the cobalt taillight then look and to the right. the angle is a little more than 90 degrees. now do the same to the g5 taillight. that looks like it a 90 degree angle. see wha im saying
