G5 Speedometer
G5 Speedometer
Finally updated my speedometer. I have pegged the needle on my 120mph speedo before, after I put in the supercharger, but I just hadnt swapped to a new speedometer yet. I decided that anything over 140 really wasn't a huge deal cause realistically my car will probably never see over that. So I picked up a speedo out of a G5 this morning for $35. Im really digging the white faces. And the good news was, all of my DIC functions and everything still work.
Honestly, it's not hard at all. Pop off the trim beside and below the steering column, remove two 7mm "bolts" and two screws from the top of the bezel, then its just four of the 7mm "bolts" holding the cluster in. Disconnect the old speedo, plug in the new one and reverse the order for taking it apart and you're done. Mine was a little more of a PITA cause of the dual gauge bezel, but still not bad. Had the whole thing swapped out in about 10 minutes.
The place I got this one from I think just had the one. But it was all the way up off Loop 12 in Grand Prairie, just south of 30. I paid $35 plus tax for it. I checked on Car-Part.com and found it. There is a place called All Discount Auto Salvage in Grand Prairie as well that has one from a 2007 G5 listed for $29 though. The place I got the armrest from has one too, but they want like $90 for it.
I paid $95 shipped for my SS cluster, it's really easy to switch out and there is a how to on it that will tell you the year interchangeability and exactly what is needed to do.
Yeah, ever since my brother had his Cobra with white gauges, I've loved the look of them. If SS gauges had come in white, I would have probably tried to go with them. But I also didn't think I needed over 140. I don't know of a time or place where I would ever get the car over that. If I bury the needle on a 140 speedometer, then I'm going plenty fast enough. But this is one of the cheapest mods I've done to the car so far besides some paint here and there. But I felt bad about having only a 120 speedo in my car after its been supercharged for almost 2 years. Haha
But I think its 05-06 to 05-06 with no loss of functions. 05-06 to 07+ but you lose most of the DIC functions. 07 to 08-10 but you lose the TPMS light. 07 to 07. Then 08-10 to 08-10 with no loss of functions. But Im not 100% on that. But if you get one from the same year, it should be no problem at all.
