Got my lights aimed. But got a question.

Ok so I got my hids aimed in my projectors last night. I used this chart to aim them.

So driving home last night I noticed that out in front of my car the lights make a V. The light output to the left and right is great and the height of the lights is about perfect. But I cant figure out why there is a dark area 5-10 feet out in the center of the car in V shape.

If your in my car with the HIDs on, you can see clearly that there is a V in front of the car, can anyone tell me if I need to move my lights up or down or in or out? I am sooo tired of trying to aim these damn things. I have read all the how to's and watched all the videos but no matter what, I still have the big dark V out in front of the car.

damn dude, sorry to hear that. I had the same problem with my car and no one could answer my question so what i did was have someone retrofit me some lights with E55 bi-xenon. thats something you should look into because its gonna be hard trying to get those things perfectly aimed.

Yea they have been a huge pain in my ass so far. I cant get the middle LEDs to work on either headlight. Some times they come on other times they dont lol. And I have re-done my wires about 5 times now and everytime I get the same middle LED not working. Then the next day it will work then the next it wont But Im not too upset about that, I just wish I could get these damn things aimed .

yea, its definitely been alot of threads about people not being able to properly aim these things. Its always gonna be like a hexagonal shape infront of the car. At least it was for mine, maybe you could try and PM Jackalope and ask if he had any success in aiming his.

But if you have about 600 disposable, you could definitely look into a retrofit project.

I can afford a retro no problem. Its just that I have no time, or near the skill level needed to do something like that.

I also have this problem...annoys the hell out of me.

Then again, on the drive home friday night my lights just died, and won't come back on...so I guess that's the bigger issue. I think it's my relay, power in but no power out. I'm not very happy right now.

The V in your pattern might be from your HID being inserted incorrectly. I had this problem when i first put mine in, then i just turned the bulb 180*. (and modified the housing again, one more drill hole) V pattern is gone!

What do you mean modified the housing? The bulb could only go in one way when I put it in?

that one way its made to fit has the return line blocking the light output, leaving that V shape. He drilled another return slot so he could rotate the bulb from where it sits stock.

I would still be a little worried about some shavings not comming out even after using a vaccume. Or is it really that big of a deal..

WOW am I pissed! So I went out and drilled where I was supposed to so that the lead return was facing down. All went fine, So I get the vaccume to suck out and shavings and all it did was blow all the shavings into the actual housing. So now my lights look like ****! WOO HOO! And my hids STILL have the same V in the pattern. I think I am just going to sell these things, for the money spent this was NOT worth the hassle these things have caused.

Sounds like the company is putting the driver side projectors in backwards.

I think for people that want HIDs... retrofitting is the only way to go otherwise the results are never what is to be expected.

my cutoff...

I agree with you. I will be taking out my projectors and HIDs this week and selling them. Worst 450$ I have spent to date. Oh well, you live and learn.

I think the beams are supposed to cross eachother, did you make it so the beams cross? I'd see you having a big V in the middle if you had lined it up where the beams didn't cross before 25 feet maybe? Just an idea, dunno if it will fix the problem.

Think it's a pain now? Wait til a bulb blows, and u gotta replace. I had to rep a bulb and re-aim those damn things all over again. Least tha bulb used for HB can be swapped for Lb to getcha home without a ticket from lonely cops. ^^

LOL i am not too worried about that. I took the projectors out this morning and the HID kit is allready forsale on the forum. The stock headlights are back in the car and I will never ever again think about getting different lights.

did you make sure and grind a slot out for your HID return lead?
if not, thats whats causing your dark spots.

if you did, did you do it on top, or on the bottom of the housing?

I did it on the bottom so that the return lead was facing down. I am selling the setup though. It is too much work for not too much of a difference. No biggie though, I am just gonna have to take a loss on everything.

Projectors/HIDs are for sale in the for sale section.

Generally if u can visibly see the center of the Z-pattern on the road ahead of u ( Im assuming thats your black hole) your lights are adjusted to low . I went thru the same thing on my 1st HID retro with real HID projectors before I realized I just had them set way to low . If their adjusted right , as they shine down the road ahead , the Z should disappear and all u should see is a shorter beam on the opposite side of the road and longer beam in the lane your in . Another thing I noticed in your diagram , u may just have the projectors to far apart . 3-4 feet distance in between the Z-pattern seems a bit excessive . While I havent measured mine exactly , its closer to 2-2.5 feet apart . If u had the projectors adjusted to far apart , that would absolutely make a black hole in the center .

The way I set the proper height on mine is measured up from the ground to the center of the projector with a tape measure . Pulled up really close to a wall , set the center of the drivers side beam at that height . Then backed out 25 feet and lined up the passenger with the driverside and set the side to side adjustment , and like I said before , the distance between my z-pattern is about 2-2.5 feet . Also on up and down adjustment , after you get them set to proper height , on a projector lens u can get away with going up a little more if u need to and still be at a safe adjustment .

If u really want em , I would give em another crack . Hope that helps .
