Gullwing Door Kit from Autoloc (not bolt-on)
For those that want something different than the "Lambo" doors, Autoloc is producing a universal weld-on Gullwing door kit. They have pics of it installed on an HHR and a Silverado. Very cool IMO. I might be considering this for my Cobalt.
Not trying to advertise, I have no connection with Autoloc or the E-bay sellers. Just thought this was cool and others might wanna see it.

Oh and you can get the real Autoloc kit(not some cheap imitation) on E-bay for like $500.

That wouldn't really work on our cars... the doors are the wrong shape... plus you'd have to cut into the roof... bad. I'm sure it could be done... but it wouldn't be worth it.

how can you make a cheap imitation of something thats already cheap?
just bustin your chops....but after doin a fair bit of research on alternate door styles....i found 1 rule that you can take to the bank.
If you pay less than $1000 and buy them from ebay....you wont be happy in the end.
ALOT of stories out there of people doing lambos and stuff on the cheap....
and those hinges are done in 6 months.

I'm sure you would have to install some bracing into the roof to make this work well and it would add some weight to the car but if you are building a show car and not a racer then it wouldn't matter. As I said this is not a bolt-on kit and is a "universal" even the website says that the amount of modification needed to make it work depends on the application.

autoloc sucks *****. at the shop i used to work at, we put a lambo door kit from them on a civic, and it was the worst designed system i have ever seen. it took two guys roughly 20 hours to install the first door. the actuators that came with the kit didnt work properly, and it took alot of custom fabricating . i would not recommend the autoloc kit.

want a push button start nothing. That is already a given. I did it to my 'Stang and I loved it. It will be subtle and look good when I am done. I have changed my mind on the doors after hearing the comments in this thread.

too bad the delorean wasn't the first car to do the gull wing doors. The Mercedes-Benz 300SL built from 1955-1957 was the first gullwing car. almost 30 years before Delorean did it.

To make this work the car would hafta be essentially destroyed.
You would need to hack up the roof to re-inforce it to handle the weight of the doors and the force of the opening/closing, so it would all but impossible for sunroof guys, and highly improbable for any cobalt owner ever.
And even after that it's a universal kit, so getting fitment/functionality issues smoothed out would be a nightmare. And to pay a shop to do this properly would run you no less than a few thousand $.
And if you really think about it,,, would you even want your doors to open like that??? I think it would look gay. Gullwings belong on a very select group of vehicles, where they have been designed in from the manufacturer, so they look right, and more importantly they work.
If you must have custom doors, look into suicide or lambo, they can be done right for about a grand give or take depending on how much of the work you do yourself
Personally, I'd rather spend that money making the car perform/handle better, but to each his own

Personally I think Gullwing doors look sweet. However if your car is a daily driver it would not be practical at all because you would never be able to get in or out. But for ***** and giggles here is a pic of a mustang with gullwing doors

Sorry the pic is kinda big.

Yeah those aren't really gullwings, but, that would work,,, basically as long as you use the door jambs for the supports than you're fine.
The roof just isn't strong enough for what the original poster was talking about
