Headlight Question

Hey,
I am in the process of doing some retrofits as a side project.
I read some of the howto's and am making some good progress. I was able to pry off the headlight lenses using the oven method. I have a lot residue sealant left on the headlight housing and the lenses. I do not want to reuse the old sealant, I want to try to remove as much of it as I can and use some oci butyl rubber glue when I am done.

Is there some type of solvent to easily remove this or am I going to have to keep reheating the headlight housing and lenses and scrape this stuff off?

My second question is the about the chrome inside the headlight. I know people just paint over that stuff but I would like to remove/strip it and then paint over it (just a habit from orgo lab about having clean surfaces). Would my best bet be using some type of high grit sandpaper or is there a solvent to easily remove it?

Thanks

as far as removing the factory sealant, your just gonna have to keep heating it up and scraping it off, takes alot of time, but the better you get it now, the better off it is when you seal them back together. when painting over the factory chrome stuff, just scuff it up with some sand paper, maybe like 320 or something, i actually didnt use sand paper, i just used scott brite pads.
