headlights question

I bought a pair of headlights off of ebay. They are all painted now and glued back together. These lights came with the wiring harness to wire up to the car. Do you think if i put these lights outside for a night with the wiring harness installed in the light holes I can see if they leak or not. Will this tell me if there are any leaks or is this a stupid idea?

throw them in, if they leak after a couple days or weeks or ever, take them out and reseal them. Takes almost as long to pull them out as to set them outside, pretty easy install. My passanger side just fogged up after months. I'm assuming somehow the winter had something to do with that. Going to grab a tube of permatrex tomorrow and take care of it, no biggie.

I used some caulk that was for sealing windows and door jams. It said it's for outside use. Do you think that will work fine?
