Help with front bowtie please?

[IMG][/IMG]Alright so i decided to take off my front emblem to paint it. Theres two 10mm bolts that hold it on. Remove the nuts and they should come off, simple right? Nope. When i took my cobalt in for some body work a couple years ago, the guy doin the work must really suck because when he was putting the bowtie back on he had to apparently re thread the bolts. Im guessing he is an idiot because of how he did it, and leaves me to question on how he even got them on. Heres a pic of what the bolts look like, its as clear as i could get it while forcing my camera in at odd angles to get a pic. Ive tried just unscrewing them and they turn easily enough as if they were to be able to be removed but in the end they wont come off. Iff anyone konws what to do in this situation if you dont mind lending a hand or any tips.

I tried but like i said i can unscrew it bu it will just turn and turn without actually come off or undone. Maybe i need to take a wire brush to remove the pieces of metal stuck around, got three pices caught in my thumb when i tried to unscrew it by hand.

Nah man I did it, just start by taping off the area you want to paint, then buy a plastic sheet, cut out a hole and tape around your other tape, then just lay the plastic all over your hood, down the sides and down the front bumper. Just be sure when you tape the plastic that there are no creases for paint to leak through.. Works like a charm.

Ive tried pulling it after unscrewing a bit but i never actually tried pulling while unscrewing, ill try that, I figured that it would already be on the threads but ill try it. And thanks i would appreciate that.

This would be a last resort if anything, i mean its just to risky right now.

Haha man I'm tellin you pull it in the garage or somewhere with no wind and go to town.. Unless a mistake is made while taping, there's very few things that can go wrong. I used this same method for front and rear bowties as well as when I VHT'd the top rear brake light.
But hey, if you wanna take it off, go for it. It's probably worth all the trouble as simple as it would be to paint it while detached.

Ill prolly just pull off just the bowtie piece and paint it then glue it back on if i cant get it off, its not a biggy but when theres something i cant do i fight for the ability to do it. Its The Marine inside me that propels me.

I painted mine on the car. Just taped it off and put newspaper around it.

Or you can pry it off and when you put it back on, just find 10mm nuts to screw on.

LOL what do you mean by screwed? Screwed as in they are just jacked up, or screwed as in screwed on?

Im going to say that 97% of ppl paint there on the car, no reason not to really. I taped off all around, put a crap of newspaper, then cover my car with some sheets total over kill. Don't go looking for trouble

I'd try to just get the golden bowtie part off and stick it back on with 3M emblem tape when you're done. That's likely to only part you want to paint anyways, right? Goo-gone and fishing line!

Or even try to dremel the studs off flush with the nuts and try to pry the nuts outward against the inside of the grille, while turning them with a wrench or something. Shitty situation dude.

Thanks i most likely will try this, but i might ask a my buddy who owns a body shop first. Im going to try and get the nuts off a couple different times and if i dont i will resort to just prying the center out.

I finally got it now. Thanks guys.
