HID Fogs: Done :)

I bought these about a month before having to replace my cylinder head. The day after all the repairs were done I figured I'd slap these on while I was at it. The boot was a PITA because it kept me from getting them to screw in but that problem was solved before too long.

Also, can I replace the gen 3 low beams with say, silver star bulbs?

You could replace the gen 3 low beams with say, hids. Silvers stars suck, they burn out quickly.

Meh, I didn't want to go the HID route with headlights.

Why not? It's worth it, the output of the Gen 3s is worse than stock without hids imo.

You're correct, which is why I wanted to do something different. However, I don't want to get high beams flashed at me for my lights being TOO bright, either.

People are ignorant about headlight beams anyways. I've been flashed more often with my stock headlights with the aim properly adjusted than I have with hids and projectors. I don't get flashed very often, maybe once every 3-4 months.

Hmm. Maybe I'll look into it then. Is there cutting involved?

No. Not if the bulbs are made correctly. I had an issue with ddm's H1 bulbs being a bit too big. I had to take a round file and file down the rear of the projector a little. But TONS of other people have had them fit. I think I just had a defective set. My 3bspec ones fit perfectly though. Someone else chime in here and tell me if you had the same issue.

You may wanna look into doing the anti glare mod on the gen 3s. It's really easy, you just take a small thin screw driver and remove the glare makers inside the projector. The just unscrew, turn over the headlight to make them fall out, then get some muffler putty and put it on the end of a toothpick and fill in the hole. Took me about 5 min per light. To give you an idea of how easy it was it was the first mod I ever did on a car.

I have HID's in my stock housing, I aimed them low and never have gotten flashed you'll be fine with Gen 3's projector. I had silver star cool blues, they were a bright white. had them for about 7 months, never burned out but im sure they were getting close.

Fogs look good though.

Nah, those are actually the ones that came with the lights. I really want to swap out the halos and LEDs with something with an orange tint, like Kevin has done. I honestly hate messing around with ANYTHING electrical, though. For example, I've been without a radio for almost 2 months because I started to install the Pioneer Avic D 3 with navigation, bluetooth and PAC module but I havnt gotten it finished yet lol.

I didn't think the Gen3's came with leds? Mine didn't anyways. And the halos suck. The second one of em burns out i taking them apart and putting in CCFLs.

ya they do, that's what the three small dots under the halos are, and that's what lights up the halos.

The 3 lights on the bottom are LEDs.

No i meant led bulbs in the halo rings. I think its the gen1s you can change the bulb in the halos where on the gen3s you cant. My halos dont use led bulbs so they arent very bright. Maybe they are an older style or something

Hmm, that's interesting. You should take a look at gestapo007's gen 3 retro project, I think he addresses the halo thing.

I just said how to do it. The 3rd gens have a spot of glare above the cutoff on purpose to light up signs and animals like many factory halogen projectors do. Removing this fixes that glare spot and will allow you to run hids and not blind people due to glare.

I'm way ahead of ya haha. I'm picking up some CCFL's from 3BSpec and painting the inside to color match my car. Should look pretty good. I need to find some stock headlight lens' so i can ditch the junky ones they come with.
