HID Help

I have a 2006 LS. A friend gave me an HID kit as a present a few months back, but the driver side light is out. All I know about the kit is that its plug and play. After some inspection, I noticed that the passenger side is making a noise, but the driver side isn't. From some reading and searching (correct me if I'm wrong) I found that I was suppose to install some sort of relay with the kit. I think the ballast is dead, but I'm not sure how to find a replacement. Also, what is it that I need to prevent this from happening again. Is there an easy fix? I removed the ballast if a picture of that would help, I can upload it. Thanks for the help.

The relay just allows you to take full advantage of the hi/beam feature and to keep from dimming and flickering. Ballasts die. It happens all the time. Just get a new one to replace it. Put the ballast somewhere were the weather and conditions can't really effect it.

I've never had high beams once they were installed. Are all ballasts the same, or is there something I need to know to order a new one? Do you know anything about the relay, or is it not necessary? Thanks

GEt a new ballast off ebay or something. They're like $20 for 2 new ones. no biggie. If you didn't have high beams, then you don't neccesarily need a harness.

Not quite sure what you mean by that? I at least need to get the light up and running so I can stop getting pulled over for having a light out. Then I can do something better.

More than likely you're gonna have to put your old lights back in and order another ballast. Simple as that.

Yeah, I didn't understand what he meant by that. Thanks for the help.

How often do you find these things go out? Is it extremely common? I would find it annoying if I had to keep spending money to keep them up more often then bulbs. jw and thanks again.

Its kind of random. I bought a kit off ddmtuning and the ballast went out like a couple days after having it installed and I've also bought a kit off ebay for my old g6 and I to this day after 4 years have the bulbs and ballasts still working. It's basically hit or miss.

Sounds good, I'll order one up and hopefully will have it soon. I've been pulled over a few times already, but been too busy to figure this out. Glad its an easy fix.

I think I no longer have the part that holds the original bulb. So I'll be going one eyed for the time being.

Yeah, and sticking HIDs in a halogen fixture sounds intelligent also, especially a low beam only kit.

You told him to do a retro kit and he is asking question about basic hid kits. Honestly, come on... Hids in a halogen fixture is everywhere now a days. You'll have that. It's no biggie. move on.
