HID kit for generation 1 projector headlights

I want to get a HID kit for my headlights but I am unsure what to get. I have the generation 1 projector headlights and i don't know what bulb fits them. I also remember reading something that the HIDs can melt the lenses on those headlights. Has anyone had that problem? Can someone please tell me or point me in the direction of what to do? 35w or 55w? Relay or no relay? What brand? Is the kit by DDM tuning any good?

DDm tuning is pretty popular, but I would go with Buyhids.com

get H1(bulb size) 8000k(or whatever you want) 35watt plug and play kit( I was running HID headlights and Fogs without relays and it was perfect). I've been running 10k's for a while and no problems. but now im on stock headlights.

I have 6000k 35W kits and the quality was lacking. I, of course, bought the cheapest priced one I could and mine flicker and don't seat properly in the housing and as such, leave a "dead area" of no illumination about 75 ft directly in front of my car. Its quite annoying.

55W kits will wash some of the color out of the HID bulb. Typical results of wash out would be about 1000k-1500k of temperature (8000k would appear slightly blue"r" than 6000k) and 6000k would be about 4500k - 5000k (Most Lumens according to the HID sticky resources located at the top of this forum section)

Relays use the existing headlamp circuit (or whatever you want) to trigger a switch that directly draws current from the battery or another robust power source.

You need them in a lot of cases because the existing wiring is not of a high enough gauge to supply the correct amount of current needed for ignition and ballast charging-thus, giving off the excess power in heat. You could fry your stock wiring this way.

Charging HID circuits can in some cases hit as high as 30A.

Truth about stock wiring not being able to handle the loads that HIDs require but I blew the stock 15A fuses out of mine during an install because I didn't insulate the elbow connections for the bulbs I installed. Dropped a LED 20A in both Driver Side and Passenger side and haven't had any issues.

Buyhids.com is the way to go. I have 35w 6000ks in both my headlights (Gen 1 projectors) and my fogs. No problems with flickering or anything else.

the projectors in the Gen1s arent designed to use HIDs, the pattern is pretty crappy with an HID in there. requires tweaking of the bulb to get it reasonable. anything higher than 5000k is a waste, too blue and not putting out enough usable light. dont use 55w ballasts in halogen projectors, too much heat from overdriving the 35w bulbs.

I have 5K's in my 1st gen's. The pattern isn't bad. It's a better light the the stock lights.

I'm actually about halfway through my 55W Retrofit using the CTS Valeo / Audi A4 projectors that were designed for HIDs. I'm having to alter my stock reflector bowls to get the Valeo's to fit properly but the picture below is what mine are hopefully going to look like:

Buy from buyhids.com.. Gen 1 uses H1 bulbs and I strongly suggest 35w. I have never had melting issues. They've been installed for over a year.
