HIDS from buyhids

Ok i'm so confused with the whole HID ordering thing. My gf is getting them for me for christmas, and the cobalt has a 9007 style bulb correct? I went to the check out and picked 6,000k bulb temp, type of kit id probably want to pick low and hi beam for the extra $80 correct? and would i need a relay harness? just trying to get everything so she can order them without confusion

your running them in stock housings i assume?
if so then yes 9007s is stock bulbs
relay harness isnt needed. I ran my very first set of hids back in 06 on the balt without one for 2 years no issues, and i ran them for 4 years in my cavalier with no issues.
some people like them for extra insurance on protecting the stock wiring. its up to you. Its cheap insurance, that being said my latest set in my retro fits from GMSCLighting has them.

the high low extra option im not sure on, maybe someone else can chime in and help

yeah there going to stock housing, and ill add the relay harness is just for insurance like you said. Another question are the slim ballasts worth it?

So everything i did in this link is correct? https://www.2checkout.com/checkout/purchase

Slim ballasts are a joke, any place that offers multiple different "sized" ballasts is basically telling you they sell crap. The "normal" old school Hella sized ballasts that virtually everyone sells, and any ballast that has an igniter built into the headlight wire are virtually always crap.

This is the typical copy of Hella ballasts:

Typical slim ballast with non integrated ignitor:

Yes, I know everyone loves their crap DDM ballasts, and every other ballast on the market that you ask about everyone says is awesome, none of them ever fail, none of them suck right out of the box, etc......

Its all bullshit, these guys will even give you a lifetime warranty (remember that line from Tommy Boy?....) They like to spew off statistics that their supplier gives them, amazing stuff like "less than 0.5% failure rate" Well that statistic means nothing, because it only reflect the ballasts RETURNED to the manufacturer.

Let me tell you something, if I bought a $7 ballast wholesale from China (yes, thats how much the Hellas style ballasts avaerage....SEVEN dollars) you can be sure as **** that when it failed I would throw it in the trash and just take another one off the shelf, I wouldnt send that bitch back to Asia.

Stick with OEM ballasts (Denso, Matsushlta, Valeo, Hella) or places like TheRetrofitSource, and Lightwerkz.

If somewhere has a ballast that is "theirs" but it looks exactly like every other ballast that pops up on a google search ask what makes it "theirs" besides the sticker....If they cant tell you buy from somwehere else.

Ask where their ballasts are manufactured, if they wont tell you, buy from somewhere else.

If they tell you USA, well....you get the idea...how is it that American made HID ballasts look EXACTLY like Chinese made ones and sell for the same retail price?

Using the stock housing, yes 9007 bulb size is correct.

You're not removing your high beams from the stock housing, so get a low beam only HID bulb.

The regular ballasts are fine. I got a pair of regulars and a pair of slims when I did my lights, because I was doing the fogs and I didn't know if I would be pinched for space, so I wanted an alternative in hand.

They both work fine. Lifetime warranties are the bomb. And as said, relays are cheap insurance.

Im not arguing PNP vs Projector. Im not argunig cheap vs expensive, just trying to get people to ask questions when they buy ****, maybe do some research. 95% of people will STILL buy the cheap **** because its cheap, but at least they are knowledgeable consumers when they do so.

MP's comment was absolutely perfect, I couldnt have scripted a better response "well i don't exactly know which ballast they would supply me with" This is exactly what I am talking about. Dont put up with **** like that, dont accept that youre just buying a wattage and two plugs. and everything in between is up to them. Ask questions about what youre buying, demand to know exactly what product you will recieve.

Its laughable that people accept it in this situation, but if this were done to you at any other business you would flip out.

The only question I have is how do you know that what buyhids is selling isn't quality, do you have personal experience with that company, and if you don't maybe research that particular company before you start bashing their product, I personally have HIDs from buyhids and I love them

Ive had their product in my hands, Ive compared it to other companies, Ive done as much research as possible I believe. And I never directly bashed BuyHids.com, I simply provided information most people arent aware of, and proposed some questions you ask ANY HID supplier about their product.

i just dont understand people, all these guys that get $200+ hid kits just talk **** all day. You seriously cant go wrong with a $55 DDM kit (think its $75 with a high beam). There ballasts are Slim and very good quality, they are quiet (no start up buzz) and seemed to have a better output than the same style VVME ballast that was full size. They come with a warrenty and everything ive had mine for years, and theres no reason to spend more money than that.

Idk where you see $200 hid kits? The only ones that cost that much are OEM and you could actually do an OEM setup for about that much. They cost that much for a very good reason. The morimoto kits are only $120, and they'll outperform any other cheapo hid setup you'll find. Morimoto kits are the closest to OEM quality you'll find. Quality means long life, quick warm up time, durability, brightness, and accuracy.

Which I get all of from my 50 dollar ebay hids lol.
I can see both sides of it, if that's you're thing of course you're gonna be lible to spend more on that side of it. I got hid's cause the stock lighting sucked ***** couldn't see anything. 50 bucks 3 years 0 problems. Just me.

And if you're happy with them then that's really all that counts. Some people such as myself are slightly obsessed with performance lighting, and try to educate others on the best and most reliable way of doing it. Same goes for those like yourself who try to others into doing things the right way when it comes to working on the motor.

buyhids are like $175 with a relay, so maybe not $200 but close.
