Home Depot Mesh Grill
i used some kind of spray on "rubber" that makes it nice and matte black. comes in a can just like regular spray paint and also helped to protect the paint when i was installing it cause that mesh can have pretty sharp edges.
First of all, you need to be sure there is no coating on it whats so ever. Although I highly doubt there is anything on it. Id guess you are not using the correct aerosol. In any case, use something like denatured alcohol to fully clean the surface. Next step is to PRIME. In any paint application there will require a PRIMING process. So, please do that lol. After an hour go ahead and use the top coat. Duplicolor is suggested. Let that cure and then clear coat it for that extra protection. The trick to aerosol is to do light coats.
Take it from me. I work in a paint store.

The black mesh looks very good. Im going to consider that over hounding someone for an SS/TC grille
How did you come by the SS badge in the grille? I want to find the SS badge off of the Camaro. Some how... One way or another... And do the same thing you did

Grille Mesh
A couple of comments:
If the mesh is aluminum you will need to prime the mesh first as the black paint/enamel will not stick to the aluminum without.
Epoxy is a good way to attach the mesh to the fascia.
Go to the hardware store and buy some Gorilla Tape. This will hold the grille in place until the epoxy sets up.
Rough up the areas where the epoxy will be with some fine (150+ grit) sandpaper first. Just a light sanding!
Finally don't forget to clean the backside of the fascia to ensure good adhesion of the epoxy/tape.
You can use rivet's with washers to attach the mesh but this means drilling holes in the fascia and the rivet heads would be visible. Could look OK if you where going for that "Track Car" look.
I have used this method on my motorcycle with great results. Haven't lost a mesh grille yet. Just starting one on my son's Cobalt. We will post pic's when it's done.
