Well kanabrewski suggested I get the LED strips. I'm thinking on using those for the grills, and the 6'' lights I have for the engine. That way I can put the lights in 2 locations for the engine, and then have 2 grill lights. Plus the strip is smaller and easier to hide. I'll put one of the tube LED's on top of the hood like kana, and one by the wipers I think that's the fire wall? Also is it possible to hook up all 4 lights to one switch? That way there's 1 switch for all engine area lights and 1 switch for my interior lights.

Eh I was hoping to keep on one switch so I have room for an extra switch in case I decide to do under glow. Which I'm not sure if I want to. Those are deff illegal.

alright if your question is answered already.....i dont remember exactly how the cobals front is but if yoou put one on the top of the front crash bar and one on the bottom it would illuminate top and bottom....also on the switch thing.....wire it into a relay....your "certified" guy will know how....that way only one wire comes into the dash

ALL lights are ILLEGAL while driving... if your stopped it is not.

also BLUE and RED is HIGHLY ILLEGAL, u can get slapped with impersonating a cop with those.

it is not illegal to have them, i had underglows on my 94 ford tempo dont ask, i also had it decked out on the inside

Ok. Yeah he should know how to do everything. I just like to know what has to be done. So I can learn.

Yeah, that's why I won't drive with them on.

So what makes you go with these mods over, say, lowering the car or getting a nice street tune or something along those lines? Not bashing by any means, just curious is all.

ok well i can tell you how the relay works....there are poles....you will run all the lights to one pole...then ground it to the chassis on another pole....then you run a switch to a pole on the relay.....this allows you to run a single lower guage wire to the drivers area....also reduces the risk of fire or anything else...

also sorry for my crude explanation.....dont feel like going into deep details about it....

also you will need to get him a relay....ask him what he wants to use then you can get one anywhere automotive....

How much do they usually cost? Probably more simple for him if he wires 2 switches. He got annoyed installing my grills, don't want him getting annoyed with relays into one switch hahaha

I don't want to lower the car, cause I grind the front bumper enough as it is. It's already stock lowered with ss/sc springs I found out. I'm just not into lowering cars. And as for a tune, I won't get one cause now GM checks to see if you tune, and will void your warranty if they see it's been re flashed.

like $5 i think and it is actually simple and much much safer to run a relay and fuse....but i left fuse out for simplicity....the relay is easier because the larger wires for the lights can be shorter....and he only has to run one small wire to the drivers area....

all im saying is if he is certified he should insist on a relay.....

What is everyones infactuation with having fancy lights on while they're parked. I know out here, if your hood is popped at a car meet, you better have something badass under the hood to justify having your hood popped......not pointless blue lights. The only way I could ever justify having such lights on a car, would be if it was a car thats showed at big indoor venues such as HIN, where having extra lights in and around your car actually serves a purpose.

Not flaming/hating, just stating what I thought about the situation.

True lol he's got a point there. Plus I didn't really buy the car so I can drive fast with it. I wanted/needed a new car, and something that got good gas millage. And I didn't get a Honda civic cause I don't like the interior. And I always liked cobalts. I do the mods I do to my cobalt to make it look good instead of stock. a "mod" to me is replacing anything on the car from stock with after market. I understand you guys don't like people that don't mod it for performance, but I'm just not into that stuff. And some of you guys should respect that decision of mine. (only geared towards those that hate that I don't performance mod) so what if i'm not like everyone else? I'm still a cobalt owner..

I guess you didn't see the picture link I posted before. http://memimage.cardomain.com/member...46_83_full.jpg I just gotta paint the EMC cover, get a windshield washer cap, and a spark plug cover. MAYBE a front strut bar. And maybe some engine looms if some people can tell me what sizes I need. Then it's worth looking at. I mean sure I don't have a nice shiney SC but eh what are ya gonna do. Also should I paint that black part of the intake that goes into the throttle body?

Thats all nice and dandy, but are you actually gonna show your car, or is this all just for self satisfaction?

Well there's usually local car shows here every week, but they got kicked out of where they used to go. I'm still trying to find out where they go to now. Also I'll be at the wheels concept car show here in si. (link in North east last stickied topic)

you can get a full underglow on ebay for like 40 bucks and shipped but the best place to put them in the grill is on the bumper brace bar

No one likes/tries to break the law so to speak. Sometimes ya just gotta do it though. I mean technically "any alteration to the factory exhaust system" is illegal here in VA. But I mean theres thousands of cars in VA w/ aftermarket exhaust setups. Its also illegal to be cat-less where I live. And technically tinted tailights are illegal here too. But I have all of the above (cat-less, full aftermarket exhaust, tinted tails), and I only get hassled by the law every once in a while, and im usually let off with just a slap on the wrist.

Yanno... bit off topic but... looking at my cobalt outside... it really isn't rice what so ever. I don't know why you guys call it rice. On the outside which most people see, it's pretty much stock except my lights, grill, and rebadge. And none of those are ricey. My interior shouldn't be called rice. All I did was add style to it from stock. Maybe the mats I have, and maybe the pedals are a bit ricey, but to call it rice entirely I think is not fair. I removed that gas sticker, and I'm getting rid of those cobalt decals on the sills when I get the stainless steel ones. So I really don't think It should be called rice. There really isn't anything else rice about it. Also I understand some may not like my trim. BUT they (GM) don't offer a solid blue. But I got the blue lightning instead of painting, cause I like it. But I wouldn't call that rice... Especially if it came from GM. That's pretty much like calling a stock car rice. It also matches my paint in the sense of it's called blue "flash" metallic. Adding neon/led lights I don't think that should be classified as rice. I mean look at ford, interior lighting comes standard now on the mustang. It's just accent lighting. I don't see anything wrong or rice about it. But I'm just hoping this can open some of your eyes about my car, and see that my car really isn't rice. IMO this is a riced cobalt:https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/appearance-48/general-comments-my-car-121966/ But I admit the only things I'd call rice about my car is the mats and pedals. But I like them, and that's all that matters. It's about what I like. So if some you don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you can stop calling me "rice" and "stickers" and if your going to call me "blue lightning," please don't use it in the form of a diss. It's got a nice ring to it when it's not used to diss my car. I'm asking you guys politely to please stop. Even though there was no bashing in this topic, I'm talking for future reference. I hope some of you can be mature about this, and stop dissing me. I'm not asking for much. Sorry, I'm just venting a little. But I'm glad to see that for once no one flamed me or destroyed my topic. I appreciate that. You guys respect me, and I'll respect you guys back.

In all honesty man, coming from a guy whos built several award winning sport compacts, heres what I find to be "ricey" about your car. Know that im not picking fun, im just giving you friendly advice.

-the lightning interior trim. It just seems tacky and overdone.
-blue leather shift boot. The stock black leather one was much classier and nicer looking.
-metal floor matts. Your car is not an industrial factory. Should have gone with some nice floormatts from Modern Pefroamance or Lloyd IMO.
-fake cf/wrong color blue pedals. Self explained.
-front AND rear "Cobalt" licence plate frames. Everyone knows what a Cobalt is, no need for those.
-tacky rubber bowtie steering wheel cover that covers the much nicer leather steering wheel.
-vinyl fuel door cover. At least you already took that off......

Now, moving on to the good, I think a few things you've done to your car are actually nice. I think the chrome housing projectors go well with your stock 17"s. You got a GMPP intake.......a worthy mod in many people's books. The 24 Designs rear emblem......I personally wouldn't have done it, but its not bad. And the billet grille......I mean hech, its not plastic/fake materials like some of your other mods, and actually goes well with the outside of the car.

Just trust me and take my advice man. I've been in the sport compact scene since '99 and the car scene in general since I was a kid. I've been to hunderds of car shows (Nopi, HIN, Battle of the Imports, Hyperfest, OC Car Show, etc etc) and I know whats tacky and what isnt. I mean yes, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but more often than not, MOST people will make fun of several of the things you've done to your car and call them "ricey" additions to your car.

My point is, anyone can go out and buy cheap-o pedals, pointless interior lights, etc etc. Do your research and find products that will actually IMPROVE your car, not just tack on and do nothing.

Want people to respect you and your car? Ditch some of the things I mentioned, lower it, put a full exhaust on it, a short shifter, some supporting suspension mods.....and voila, respect will be knocking at your front door.
