Before I had glossy black background and white reflective tape on the bowtie . This time I polished the perimeter ring , background is flat black , perimeter of the bowtie is polished then I masked off the polished perimeter and sanded the bowtie to look like brushed aluminum . Im really happy how it came out .
What yall think .
What yall think .
For a pontiac I would polished perimeter ring like I did , flat black background , polished border on the Pontiac logo . For the main body of the pontiac logo , I would polish the surface , the spray a red tinted clearcoat over it . So it kinda has the effect of red chrome . I think that would look pretty sweet .
I don't think it would work the same. The one on the back is plastic, so sanding it wouldn't do much. You'd have to paint it. That's what I'm thinking of doing. I want to paint it along w/ the front bowtie to match the gunmetal rims. Why is Chevy the only car logo that is gold still? Silver/chrome is the new gold!

I would but I didnt take any pics of it in process , just didnt think about it . I will say the emblem is all very thin aluminum , and the paint on there will sand off . The gold comes off pretty easy . Its just a transparent gold pad printing on top the aluminum . The silver paint though is a quite a bit harder to get off . I ended up going down to 200 grit to get the silver off then went a 400 grit to get the primer until it was all off . The area's I polished I used 1000 , 1500 then 2000 grit paper with an aluminum polish . To get the brushed aluminum in the bowtie , I used a brown 3m pad and lightly went back and forth in a straight motion . That took some patience ....if u dont keep the back and fourth motion with the 3m pad perfectly straight it will look like crap .
I didnt remove the cap at all . I just masked off very good around the perimeter with 3M fineline masking tape and covered anything else so I didnt get paint on anything or scuff my airbag cover while sanding . I also used the fineline 3m stuff for the detail work on the bowtie too .

so i kinda messed up with my steering wheel emblem, when i was trying to take it off, i bent its sides just a little bit, you cant really notice it, but I can, and think it looks awful. I now notice how you said that you left yours on when you painted it. Does anyone know where I can pick up another one to put on in place of my bent emblem? Thanks
