Question I'm planning to remove my old antenna and replace with this one..

Chevrolet 3"/76mm Blue Carbon Fiber Screw Type Aluminum Universal Short Antenna | eBay

Can anyone tell me if I can remove my trunk antenna and swap it out for this one on ebay? If so, what size adapter should I use?

Thanks in advance.

why don't you just go to modern performance websites and buy their short antenna?

C'mon people, that's not what he asked.

OP there is a list of vehicles it works on near the bottom of the page, if you can find your specific vehicle than you wont need an adapter. Hope this helps.

It will fit 2005-2010 cobalt all trim levels. it comes with the universal adapters and screws anyways if you read the next few pages.

Thanks everyone, I looked into the MPx as well, I think I might go with that, but now my question is reverting to the removal of the old antenna. I looked inside the trunk and saw the base, but I had no idea on how to remove the antenna without damaging anything, either these things are extremely tight, or I'm doing it wrong lol

Should I remove the two bolts that hold the base up? I always thought the actual antenna itself just screwed off and that was the end of it, at least that's how simple it was on my girlfriend's and my other car...

the antenna does screw off and the two bolts you speak of hold the antenna mount...I had a b*tch of a time with my antenna..IT WOULDN"T UNSCREW

I just took the whole mount out with the antenna on it and was finally able to get it off

GOOD LUCK!!

this is what I thought about doing, but theres another cable that goes into the base that the antenna itself goes into, can that be removed or would that cause damage? I think that is the cable that comes from the headunit of the car, it turns too, but it doesnt seem like it is removable without force, and I want to avoid that.

This is not true... there are discrepancies between trim levels and years. Some are a 6mm screw and others are a 7mm. I purchased a stock antenna from an Opel GT, rethreaded it and it worked fantastic.

Before I did that I literally just chopped 16" from my antenna and then used a clear liquid epoxy to reattach the ball at the top.

This is what I did, except I used a vacuum cap instead of reusing the ball

Can people go more in-depth with the removal of the old antenna? It's tight as a bitch when I try to twist it out.. I even put a rag in between a pair of pliers and tried twisting it off that way to no avail. Why the hell are these so troublesome to remove?

Also, as far as getting a new one, I want mine to be in the 3"-6" range (but if i sacrifice reception, nevermind), 31" stock is way too damn tall lol

If you have an 06... that thing was sealed and tightened 6 years ago and hasn't moved. It's going to take some real effort to remove it. I did mine when my car was only a year and a half old and it was a pain in the ass then.

So using a lot of force to loosen the antenna from the base is to be expected? Yes, I have an 06. Not sure if it was late or early 2006, but I know where to check when I get the chance.

IIRC mine was made in February of 2006, could be wrong though.

How did you manage to get yours removed? Just some pliers and elbow grease? lol

The first time I did it, i wanted to reuse it so w-40, a crescent wrench, a rag to protect the paint, and a good amount of force. A couple months later it took less effort but was still a bitch IIRC.

Measure the thread of your stock antenna. Get any thing you want to use as the antenna. Drill and tap a hole to the correct thread size.

Make sure you hold the antenna base inside the trunk and keep that wire from spinning. I've seen those bases break quite a few times

Keep what wire from spinning? The cable that connects to the base?

why are you trying to remove the base? use some breakaway oil... spray.. let it sit for a few hours... and then unscrew the old long antenna and replace it with the shorty. simple. i take mine off everytime i store it for the winter. im guessing yours has say for 6 years. be careful!

Wow, a whole lotta hype for nothing, just took the antenna off with no struggle at all.

I tried using pliers earlier today which was no good.
Wrapped it in a rag again but this time used a wrench, came right off in a jiffy. Its a tad rusted but ill use a wire brush against it to clean that out.
