Impossible: Cleaning around the shifter
Impossible: Cleaning around the shifter
This is going to be one of my dumbest posts but it is really bothering me. Anyone who has an SS look at the chrome ring around your shifter. How do you clean this? I spilled some Coke on there and it gummed up and I can't get to it. U have used q-tips, toothpicks, armor all, and tech protect and I can't clean it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Don't try to clean your interior with Armor All or Tech Protect. They are protectants, not cleaners, and are designed to be used on a clean, dry surface.
Your best bet is probably to pick up some Simple Green Automotive. Its great stuff, won't harm plastic/paint/metal, doesn't smell bad, and its nontoxic. Cleans like nothing else though, it will eat through engine grease like its nothing, yet its mild enough to use on your interior too. Spray down the whole shifter/chrome trim assembly, let it soak for a few seconds, and clean it with paper towels and/or cue tips. Should come out nice. Its the spill went down inside, you may have to pull apart the shifter assembly to clean it up completely.
Hope that helps.

I did the same thing, the toothpick with a paper towel works. I'm getting the Hurst shifter whenever it's released so I'll be giving it a more thorough cleaning when I rip it apart for that.
It only takes about five minutes to take the center console apart. I had the same problem in my car and I had it taken apart, cleaned, and reinstalled in ten minutes. There are no screws in it, it just clips together.
