Installed HID's
Installed HID's
I installed HIDs Saturday afternoon. The installation went alright. Had a few minor hickups, nothing to big. The install was sucessful !
I am just wondering if anyone has removed or cut off the plastic sheild inside the headlight? The HIDs are bright, they just dont go FAR? Seems my stock lights went out further from the car??!!
Anyone ever remove the sheild or trim it?
Thanks for any help!

People get too caught up in the numbers and marketing propoganda with HIDs.
Your stock 50 w. Halogen lamp outputs 750-950 lumens
8,000k...2500 lumens
10,000k...2200 lumens
12,000k...2100 lumens
BUT
Your eye is MUCH more sensitive to white and yellow light, and has a VERY tough time proecessing blues/purples. Therefor...even though you are technically getting higher numbers with a light meter, your eye cannot pick up details with blues/purples.
My apologies if you did purchase a 4300k kit or even 6000k. Still, put 'em in projectors and you'll see a HUGE improvement.
1 - Aim your headlights. The bulbs may be sitting in a slightly different position than the halogens were. Just don't go too high, these are low beams after all.
2 - DO NOT REMOVE THE SHIELD!!!! This is what provides the cutoff on these type of headlights. Without it you will have full time high beams....not good to say the least.
As pointed out by others above, invest in a set of projectors if you want to run HID's. The light output and beam pattern will blow you away

Aim them up a little... I have mine aimed kind of high, if I am coming up a steep hill I get the occasional ******* that will flash me.. I just flash them back and honk at them lol. Tough ****, trucks are much brighter than a little car with hid's in the headlights. I get blinded numerous times at night from peoples bright ass lights, so I am not aiming mine down further anytime soon. **** it, lol.
