i did mine alot different.....took my whole center console apart and wired it through where my stick shift is on the left side of it not interfering with anything...just an on and off switch that is basically connected through the second cigarette outlet for power........

No, i just ran the wires and instead of using a switch i just connect the 2 positive wires together.
Duh.....one of the new fancy in line fuses.

wow!!! taking a chance that isnt needed if you ask me. If for some reason those wires ever come loose and touch, or they have a wear point and wear down to bare wire kiss your cobalt goodbye.
I learned the hard way when installing my first system in my first car. I ran two remote wires on switches for two amps straight from the battery. Used female connectors for the wires on the back of the switches. One day I was playing around trying to mount the switches from the front and one of the connectors must have come loose but there were sparks and glowing wires and luckily i was able to swat at the mess and get the wires apart
After all that I looked at the wires and they had started melting through the insulation and this was apparent all the way from the switches to the battery. Had this gone on much longer or when i wasnt in the car the insulation would have melted on the wires and my car most likely would have gone up in flames.
Same reason you have circuit breakers in your house would you want to live in one without them?
BIO, i would hate to see all that hard work you have put in your car destroyed because you dont have a 25 cent fuse for your lights.
Im sure many others agree with me on this better safe than sorry.
