Interior Underglow Install help

I just recieved my million color 6pc led interior underglow kit. It works when i touch a 9 volt battery to the wires but im confused as to why its not lighting when i touch the contacts to the battery contacts. tried it when the car was on and when just the battery was on and the engine was off. What am i doing wrong? Im a noob when it comes to car electronics but this shouldn't be hard. Please help. Thanks!

well i first tried it touching the negative contact and then i tried actually touching a metal part of the frame.
nothiing. not even sparks or anything. i also tried plugging it into the plug that goes into the headlights. i didnt expect that to work but i was just experimenting.

try it again with the 9volt battery and see if you get anything. grounding is extremely tricky when your just holding the wires to the positive. also for a proper ground it has to be bare metal

try to actually wire it up, not just holding the wires to it

The reason that they aren't lighting when you are just simply grounding it out is because of the voltage limits on the item you're drawing power from. Find out what the power ratings are for the LEDs and then find something similar in power drawing power and just splice it. Thats what I would do anyway.

run them to a switch, and ground the switch to the ecu under the center console. problem solved. and use either the gear shifter(auto) light power or the dimmer power...OR just throw them away as stated above.
