Wrong.

When you go for inspection, they align your headlights, when the inspector is standing over the car wondering why hes being blinded and why the dont have a correct hotspot.....FAIL

for me all they do is emissions test and see if theres a check engine lights. no aiming headlights, plus i have projectors so i dont think they will be blinded if they were to aim them.

I dont think Colorado does this, cause I have never seen them inspect anything. I have HIDS in my OEM lights but that was how i bought it.

Having a car that might not pass a real inspection has been going on for a long time now. People know people who will just give them an inspection sticker and let them be on their way. If it isn't window tint being too dark its something else. The guy I take my car to can get it on the car lift because it is too low so he just charges me $12 and gives me a new sticker. If I get pulled over I just tell the cop it passed the state inspection then ask them about the things they have on their car i.e. their window tint being less then legal. Some times it works some times it doesn't. I don't think lights will be a big deal at all. My brother doesn't have stock lights and some dark window tint and got pulled over in Joplin Mo just after the tornado came by and destroyed the town and gave him crap about his truck. He just told him to go do something helpful and stop harassing people. Sorry if this isn't really on topic, not trying to derail the thread. Each place is different and each law is inforce differently by each cop in the area.

This is absolutely absurd. Properly installed and aimed HID lights are no worse then the OEM systems that they say are fine. I'll agree that just slapping hid bulbs and ballasts into OEM halogen lamps that weren't designed with hids in mind are a bad idea but it you have projectors I don't see the big deal.

I get blinded all the time by jerk offs in big trucks with just plain old halogens coming at me yet those guys are perfectly legal. Something as simple as giving yourself better light to sees better at night while operating a motor vehicle cannot be a crime. If that's the case then the LEDs in my tails should also be illegal because it gives those behind me a better chance of seeing me at night when coming upon my vehicle.

Increasing your ability to see and be seen at night while driving shouldn't be a crime. Even if for at the moment it is federally illegal, it won't stay that way for long.

My inspector showed me a paper in November just like that one, he asked me if I had HIDs or blue bulbs. I said HIDs and he said he shouldn't be passing, so I read the paper aloud to him. Blue bulbs are illegal in PA and HIDs are LEGAL.

This is nothing new, HIDs conversion kits and even retrofits are illegal by federal standards, always have been.
To be clear....

HIDs in halogen reflectors is illegal
HIDs in halogen projectors is illegal
Retrofitting aftermarket projectors is illegal(MH1,FXR,MD2S, etc)
Retrofitting OEM projectors is illegal(TL,TSX,E55,etc)

The only way its actually legal to use HIDs is in a non modified headlight that was originally equipped with HIDs. So again, just to be clear, HIDs are illegal no matter what in a Cobalt. But so is speeding, and removing catalytic converters, and using CAI on certain cars, and tuning out codes.

Everyone move on with life, nothing to see here.

i think its funny that the pic of this letter is literally just typed like is was typed on microsoft word ha. theres no header or website or page number or anything. this piece of paper that says this in the pic looks very unprofessional and fake. it was well written and sounds legit but in my opinion its fake. how do you make hid's illegal when they come in like 60% of new cars now? u cant.. are u tell me, for example. every audi on the road thats completely stock will get a ticket for having hid's? yea right. i dont believe it

in NY you cant get inspected with night shaded tail lights. i had to swap to red ones
but my new tails are already red so ill have no problem.
they questioned my switchbacks but i told them they light up orange and they were like yup ur good law says they have to be orange when blinking

I DOUBT this is nation wide. plus i know people at jiffy lube who do inspections

some cops dont like hids here. i have had hids since i have had my car. well maby a few months after. but no problems

It says hid CONVERSION KITS. It says right on the paper that OEM applications are fine. HID conversion kits have been illegal for years it's just that nobody has been doing anything about it for the most part.

I dont think Ohio inspects at all, only reason i needed a inspection is because I bought a car out of state. Lady that looked at my car could barely walk she said she use to be a state trooper. she said "Cute car, could you read me the vin please, I cant lean over that far".

Well now you guys see that these in fact are federally illegal, this info as I said before was passed through the state inspection system, who knows if the police get a memo similar to this but if they do beware!

Is it too much to ask for this to be stickied?
