Well I managed to get my hands on a spare set of K2 Motors led taillights. So I decided to try something different. Do the skyline mod to them. Well it hasn't been easy haha. They arent the same as stock lights. The lights are held togeather with epoxy so no matter how long I left them in the oven I couldn't get them apart. So I used a dremel and cut the back off. The LED rings I got off Ebay. Now I just mocked up the right side to see how it would look. The led ring isn't as bright as the taillights which kinda sucks but I've been looking everywhere for something brighter with no luck. I could run an LED strip but it would look like crap. You gotta remember you can see through these lights. So I want them to look legit. And as for other led rings I've seen they look the exact same as what I have. So if anyone has somewhere I can get brighter 90mm red led rings that would be awesome. Here's a couple pics. Let me know what you think! Sorry for the cell pics.

It looks weird that the outside tails are bright and the inner tails are so much more dim. Im not too sure why everyone goes with the LED rings. I bought component parts from Mouser and drilled holes and installed and wired each LED by hand and mine are just as bright as my outside tails even though they arent LED. Although for me, since so many people are starting to do the Skyline mod, I'm about to remove mine.

I think it looks cleaner because it isn't as bright. But you guys are definitely right haha. I knew getting into this project matching leds with the taillights was gonna be hard. Just want to get some opinions if I should button them up so continue the search for another ring.
Honestly, in current form I would ditch them. They arent bright enough to be really noticeable around dusk, I doubt you can see them during the day time, and at night they look like they are dying in comparison to the outers. If you want to keep the skyline tails, I would suggest getting a strip of bulk pack LEDs. The company I get all of mine through makes red LEDs with clear lenses, so since the K2's are clear lensed as well it may not be as noticeable.
Check out Mouser Electronics. You can get some super bright LEDs for like $0.08 a piece. Hell I bought about 40 LEDs and about 20 resistors from them a while back and spent less then $6.00 total. Im not sure what shipping is cause their office is like 20 minutes from me so I just go pick them up, but I dont think it would be too much.

Hmmmm well I do have a spare set of outer K2 tails. I really didn't want to wreck them to get the led's but it may be looking that way. Thanks for the info riceburner! I ordered a set of led strips. Look to be brighter. I'll try them out. If not I may take apart the spare outer tails for the leds.

Nice. i really think using the k2s will be your best option since it will obviously match. the only thing i wish was different was the inner rings were a little smaller...
anywho if you wind up doing that lemme know i'm willing to pay someone to do this for me! no clue how much but i wanna do it! best mod ever!

He had to hack the hell out of em to make them work though. I'll try these led strips I got comin and if not I'll do what he did. Great info though! Oh and my 3rd brake light is out of a 2000 and up Monte Carlo or Impala. Well the insides of it anyways.

Well it took all summer (i'm picky lol) but I got my skyline taillights done! I found a set of used tailights from a guy for cheeeeap. Instead of using a turn signal led bulb like colodude18 I used led lights out of motorcycle foglights. Much brighter. Also I didn't use the reflectors. Painted it black instead. I love em! It was a wicked birthday present to myself
