Looks cool and for only $60 that's not to bad. Although I worked at a chevy dealer and those new switchblade cruise keys were always breaking.

ive been searching everywhere for this!!! but how could you get the key cut if ours has a chip or somthing in it...they told me i couldnt get a key cut you have to buy one from the dealer so you wouldnt be able to actually use the switch blade?.. i seen it said you may have to use both keys depending on your vehichle but that would just be a waste right?

Yea I believe almost everyone started this in the late 90's? IDK But its like when I got my remote start. They had to use one of my keys for the actual alarm/remote start in order for it to work and those keys aren't cheap lol. I learned that in my 00 contour SVT. So IDK if something like this would even work for our keys?

the chip is in teh plastic part of the key. Thats why like the dude said when we get a remote start put in there is a special module we need to buy which is pricey and the key goes into it so the computer thinks there is a key in the ignition when remote starting the car.

If your key has a cross symbol thing on the blade near the black part it has a chip.

It looks cheap and even OEM ones from VW break easily. It's just another moving part that can break. I wouldn't do it.

Well I got an email back from the makers of the key and they said that the key comes chipped and would just need to be programmed like any other new thing we buy for our car

lmao! sooooo this is funny that i came across this thread!
i bought my car used and of course **** always comes out bad from a used car and a back ass dealer... my key fob was workin great for the last year and it jus so happens that the key fob is slowly making me hold the buttons longer and at a closer range to make it unlock the car... soooooo i decide to change the battery, i pull open the fob and BAM! ***** been horribly ghetto rigged with paper to hold down the contact and battery so the FOB will work... so i decided to call the dealer for a new one... 80$ for the new FOB and 40$ to program that bitch... NO not paying that... theres always a back door way to ****.... so i Ebayed a 06 chevy cobalt KEY FOB, bam 22.91 free shipping on ebay and im waitin til the 3rd of January to get it in so i can take it to the dealer to program it.. my buddy who used to work there says that they jus gotta program the FOB, if you bring in your own its cheaper on your part.. lol.. idk anything about a chip bein in a key, cuz when i unlock my car with the key my car alarm goes off until i put the key in the ignition and turn the car on sooooooooooooooo... **** them, program the FOB and my key will still work right.. ..... i believe i bought it from the same as the tagged post above... LETS SEE HOW IT GOES

The chip in the key allows the key to start the car, has nothing to do with deactivating the security system.

I will have them program the fob to see if the key really does need to be programmed unless you beat me to it first. I don't know when mine is supposed to be here. soon I hope
