LED 3rd Brake light from MPx

I know...simple mod. But I like having all LEDs in the back now

I used a piece of cardboard to cover up the other bulb in the housing that stays in there to keep your cruise control working so it doesn't look funny like it does on their site.

The Impala LED board is also brighter than this one.

This board is substantially brighter than the OEM 3rd brake light...not sure how much brighter I need the thing? Either way just posting up my results. Impala or MPx...either way LEDs > stock

I wouldn't use cardboard... thats asking for fire hazard. I'd use foil to cover the bulb... safer.

What is this nonsense about needing to leave a bulb in for cruise control? I have an OEM Impala board in my 09 SS and previously in my 06 LT and never had an issue.

MPx obviously knows its a flaw in their design so why have they not fixed it so there isn't a bulb left in to generate heat?

To answer the first portion, the Impala board has resistors built in so your car still thinks there's a bulb in there. The MPx one does not, so you need to leave a bulb in there to ensure that your cruise control still works.

The second portion, I had the same concern about generating heat because I have a piece of cardboard in there and the last thing I need is a fire in my trunk. I got a 2x4 and wedged it so that my brakes stayed on. Then I went and made a turkey sammich and enjoyed it. About 15 minutes later I went out to check and see how hot the bulb and mainly the cardboard were. The bulb wasn't bad and the cardboard was barely even warm to the touch. So heat's not an issue I can assure you.

Mine didnt need to leave any other lights in to work fine?

I just had to make sure it was plugged into the correct socket and it works fine, cruise works everything.

I got diffrent led lights tho, mine are made in stock housings so they fit like factory. love em

I agree with you tho, LED over stockers!

You're talking about a 3rd brake light right?

Strange, well to everyone that hasn't bought the MPx one I personally advise that you get one out of an impala at a junkyard, its cheaper by a mile. Plus you don't have to leave a light in, which is one of the reasons for getting an LED bar in the first place.

Hmm... this is $16... Piranha Bar

And if I took a pic of it in the dark like the OP's it would blow that one out of the water. In fact I'll do that right now. Only usable pics are the ones with flash, which defeats the whole purpose... but you can still get an idea.

If you nightshade your third brake light, you could have problems with heat. When I put in the prototype buyhids board, all three of my reflector cups were distorted and had major signs of heat and melting, from the bulbs.

^^^ Why would niteshade suddenly cause heat issues?

And that piranha double bar is ugly IMO.

Correct me if I'm wrong though...the Impala board isn't plug and play correct? It involves a bit of wiring right?

It can involve some wiring, but if you buy a bulb adapter that fits into the bulb socket and has wires coming out of it it's really easy to make it a plug and play mod.

I didn't even do that, when you take it apart, the power and ground wire detach but have a prong on the end. I just plugged those in to the factory third brake light plug and taped them together, pulled them out and cleaned up my tape job and then its essentially plug and play.
