LED map lights

I can't find a thread on this, but has anybody been able to disassemble the rear view mirror to install LEDs for the map lights.

awesome man. I hope you figure something out. I took the mirror down and didn't see any part that would allow me to take the mirror apart.

JamesJJP put a red film over his.

I replaced my Map Lights with Ultra White LED's. You do not need to disassemble the mirror but let me tell you getting the bulbs out are a bitch. I used a slip knot in some fishing line and fed it around the bulb and pulled it tight around the base so i could just pull them up and out. Its a very pain in the ass process but I could find no other way.

BTW the ultra white LED's look amazing in the car.

I have done 2 different LED's. But first I must say this: If you need to be able to see what you're doing in your interior DON'T BUY THESE. lol. Don't get me wrong, they look amazing. However they're just not very mega bright. Plus, I have a sunroof, so seeing what's in my back seat is impossible even with normal lights, but even with the LED's it's no different. First off, GM's mirror design is ******* retarded. Honestly. It took me about 30 minutes to do the Cobalt each time, and I still haven't been able to remove my dad's mirror bulbs from his '04 Monte SS. But using good tweezers is the trick. I first did blue (because dumb me didn't look at the packaging properly). It was super duper dark, but you could actually drive around with them on and it'd make an awesome accent effect. But I now have whites. It looks about 500% more awesome than normal factory lighting, but you can't see dick. If form overides function here, you're good to go. However if inside lights are integral, I'd either leave factory lighting, find some incredible bright LED's that will cost like 5x more, or just carry around a flashlight to use since the LED's look bangin'!

Don't know what bulbs you used but mine cost $10 and it is like daylight revisited in my car.

My LED's actually use so little power that they have a constant glow from the small amount of power running through the lines even when off.

From the front at night you can see that my map lights are still on slightly. lol

LOL I have been pulled over once for my plate light. It was a city cop who told me that I should replace it back to stock cause "the state boys" would like it. There is nothing that they can do about it.

I could understand the problem with the plate light if it was so dark you couldn't see the plate. But if you can, screw it.

I did this as well . I used a 194 bulb that had 4 narrow angle white LED's in a star pattern to reflect of the housing and 1 high power wide angle LED in the center . Bought the LED'd at superbrightleds.com . Light output is amazing , much greater than the stick incandesents .

If u install a diode in between the - and positive map light wires they will turn completely off when not on .

Yeah without a standard dome light its impossible to see into the back seat! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this problem.
