LED taillight bulb..HELP?
LED taillight bulb..HELP?
So i bought LED taillight bulbs from Ebay.. 3157 12V/white. I didant get a resistor, i didant know i was going to need one at the time when i ordered them, but anyway, they dont light up at all, i even turned it the other way, stilll nothing, i only did one side cause i didant even want to mess with the side the sub is on if it wasn't going to work. Are they going to work if i have both in there? Does the car think one is blown and dosent even try to light it? They seem to plug into the hole fine, and fit just as tight as the regular one, so i know its in there, it says there for dual fillament replacement....
I dont really even want to mess with the wireing to install a resistor, cause i'm not that good with wireing, but does anyone know of a bulb that just clips and has resistors installed that WILL for sure work with wires already out the back that i could just clip the old one off, and get some male/female connectors, so if i want to revert to stock i can fairly easily? Better yet one that has built in resistors that would plug into the old bulb spot?
I wasent going for the custom look as much as the safety that comes with LED lighting reaction times, but if this is too complicated or exspencive i might just pass...
someone here has to have some answers...
Oh yeah, incase you wondered, i have a 2009 SS sedan... so its not the round lights like the coupe, i dont know if the bulb # is different for that or not

sounds like thats the last time you should order something like that off ebay. if you plug them in they will work just one or both if they dont work there bad bulbs, you'll lights will just blink faster, and theres no plug in play option for the resistors, but to be honest i dont know if my friend hocked his up wrong, well i dont think he did hes pretty good with the wiring stuff, but the resistors he bought didnt do anything for him, so i would just run the led bulbs, youll get use to the lights blinking faster,
if you want leds by from one of these pages dont by those of ebay you'll most likely get shafted
www.v-leds.com
www.superbrightleds.com
www.3bspecialties.com
or 3b they have the switch back leds they are white and when you put the turn signal on they og from white to abmer and back and forth but there 56 a set.
note you might think there in but arnt, mine you had to actually push in they go in nice but they stopped i thought they were in but wernt turn that be for you disgaurd them.
sedan has the same bulb size as coupe ss's

thanks onecoldbiz!
I'll look into those sites a little. I might try mine one more time, to to MAKE SURE they were in, and i only tried one bulb, never thought about them being bad from the getgo...
How much faster do these blink? Do you think i'll get pulled over for them? I'm in pennsylvania and there kinda **** about external lights... if its just a little faster, it would probably be ok, but if it blinks so fast that the oem bulbs in the front dont turn off enough, they'll get me for sure...
I was also wondering, people say they blink faster with the leds in. I was planning to leave the front just stock. So is the blinking even faster when u change the front too?

one more thing, are they charging you for 1 or 2 bulbs... http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...=CAR#315x-xLX3 it dosent specify...
Well...just waiting for my wife to get home to test these agian, but i noticed one of the wires on the led's i had was bent sideways a little, so i bent it straight out, and pulled a little, and its like 2MM longer than what was sticking out (more like oem) and since it was crooked before that might have been what screwed me up...

Your welcome, yeah i would try them one more time just to be on the safe side.
they are going to blink like about double the speed. there not so fast that you cant tell there blinking, you should be fine i have never heard of someone getting pulled over cause there blinker was blinking to fast lol......you should be fine long as you keep the front blinkers white or amber, and the rears red you wont have problems.
plus if you changed only the rear, and not the front, your blubs are still going to blink faster, the fronts will blink the same as the rears, if you cant get them to work and you really want to know how fast there going to blink, take one blinker in the rear out say the left side, then turn the car on and watch how fast the front left blinker blinks when you put on the turn singnal. it will blink that fast. note its only blinking that fast when you take one out for the car thinks one bulbs burnt out. for if you never put led blubs in and one blinker blinks faster thats the car telling you you have a turn signal out on the side that blinks faster. note you wont be able to tell after you do leds if one burnt out unless you look but its not like you looseing something of value...
note your doing rears this is for two
http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/B...10374-1-2.html
and these if your doing the front you can also get white
http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/P...10370-1-2.html
or there are these that are really cool but are $$$ they go from white to amber when blinking there pretty sweet.
http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/T...46227-1-2.html
note the prices are all for a pair.. this is what is in my front but im going to be going to the ones that go from amber to white soon. and i use to have leds like that in the rear to, but i just put them in my ss/tc for i now have a fuctional skyline style lights in the rear. they do make led style rear light for a sedan but i have to look for who sells them i would really maybe do that instead if those blubs are bad. your best bet wound be on ebay if you deside with the hole rear light house led style, you should be ok buying something like that on ebay, for someone selling something like that is usally a dealer or what not

i dont really care what you think bro, noy car not yours...and they only stick out 1/2 more than stock, not that big of a differance. i bought them for the fact of how they light up and are fuctional i couldt care less about the rest,
i agree with you dude i love thoes lights
Finnally

So whoever said ebay leds are junk was right(chinese ones anyway), i tried them agian, and agian, and on the other side, and they never worked. (but they do work if u bend the contacts out and touch it with a 9 volt... hummmm)
But right after i saw that post, i went to those sites that you mentioned and eventually bought... humm... i think 26 led tails...alot...cant remember. I went out at 12 midnight and took the taillight out, plugged the led in, hit my unlock button and TADA! it worked! also bought some resistors from a guy on ebay(previously before these tails because i thought the other ones were going to need them to work) and i installed those, they came with the little clips that just splice the two wires into each other and dont really cut the wire... worked great... for anyone wondering which wires to use its the black and the yellow, i dont know how the 2door looks but mine actually has 5 wires coming from the back of the bulb socket, just ignore the 2 that go to the outer marker, go back to the other 3, thats where i attached mine at. The resistor can go either way(at least i didant pay attention until after i was done and unless by coincidence i did them both right..) and it will work.... If anyone need help on how to install those resistors, let me know, i mean, i know my + and - side of the battery but i wasent really confident in ******* up my tails untill i saw the wire diagram, and its pretty easy, i got mine the first try...
BTW,i bought these from v-leds... they came in about 4 days i think...maybe 5. either way thats still good if you ask me, awsome quality, VERY bright, i compaired them when i had 1 side on, and i would say there about 25% brighter from any angle, and the reaction time to them blinking make it look like the front and back are in opposite blinking sync from the side front-back-front-back-front
