LED Third Brake Light (CHMSL) + LED replacements

I read in another thread that swapping out the 3 incandescent bulbs for LED replacements would result in losing the cruise control. Is this true?

I looked at the wiring diagram and it seems to be independent of the cruise control. It's kind of dumb if GM really made the CC dependent on the 3 bulbs.

I was also interested in swapping out other miniature bulbs for LEDs (sidemarkers, interior) and wanted to know if anyone experienced problems in this area. Do I need to perform any modifications?

no you don't.

Go to superbrightleds.com and find your bulb and buy it.

Plug n play

i have an 08 sport and did the Impala switch. direct bolt on and my cruise control works fine. i thinks it's because it already has the capacitors on it. another technique may yield problems

as for the swap of other bulbs, such as for your dome light, everything should be a simple swap, no problems. the LEDs should be fine, as long as you don;t have to modify the connection.ie, no wiring splices etc. if you get a 9006 LED bulb for a 9006 location, no problems. there are added LEDs so the power to that light stays the same as a regular bulb

hope that helps

I was going to replace the 3 bulbs in the CHMSL/3rd brake light with 3 LED replacements (not the Impala or LED strip). I've done this on my Ford without any problems with the cruise control.

The bcm senses the switch at the brake pedal closing and disengages the cruise, and lights up the brake lights of course.
Maybe peeps who had problems just replaced the bulbs with leds and no resistor making the bcm think there was a problem with the brake light circuit and disabling the cruise as a safety measure?

bingo.. people that were doing their own LED board set up came across those problems. there was a how -to and i think some posted that they had a shop install a resistor, got rid of the problem. but it was a hack job installing the resistor and it gave him problems again.

you should have no problems if it is a direct replacement.

BTW

Do your LEDs remain dimly lit when they're off? I noticed that the LED in my trunk stays very dimly lit when it is turned off. I had this problem with my 07 Mustang GT because of how the electronics are wired.
