light output with tinted tails

I love the look of pure black tails. however, that wont be possible because its obviously illegal. I do want a light coat of vht tho. am i better off to buy the smoked led's off ebay or will the stockers produce enough light with the vht. I know lots of guys have done this but when i searched it, it was all about tinting laws and stuff.
thanks a ton guys!!
i have a yellow 2007 SC by the way. looking to go with the evo mod, retro's, and ark grip exhaust this summer.

I can still see my brake lights in the day time and I have about 3 coats of VHT on them.

I'm am SS haha. I did those for a friend. I have smoked taillights but do lots of tinting for guys. I did a set for yellowdragon. His SS is yellow but i don't have a pic of them. If you use VHT and clear make sure you wet sand after or it looks like crap

You sand afterward then buff it. Sanding gets rid of any bumps or impurities in the finish then buffing removes the scratches from sanding.

Also, I'm at work right now but might be able to post up pics of my tails later tonight if you still want them.

I have the same taillights that are just the smoke lens' and they are way brighter than that in the day haha. Thats far from 100%. You cant see the light but it isn't bright

I love the look of the led tails. And the smoke enough for me. I'm the same way. I would love to have blacked out taillights but the possible hassle from cops just isn't worth it.

well its not liek there 5% visible
i ment 100% as in you can see them during the day.
i have seen tail lights that are darker than that and you cant even see them during the day time or even night.

and the smoked version of these look shittly smoked to me. i got the red and nightshaded them

I did my tails pretty damn dark and you can see them still really well, the key is to buff them up to a high shine after, this increases light clarity (my tails are damn dirty right now), you can still see that they are normally shiny, check out the reflections, theres none of that flat cloudy grey **** goin on... but just to show you how dark they are

What did you use to buff it? And what grit of sand paper did you use?
