Making Fog Lights Stay On With High Beams

Does anyone know if there is a trick to make the fog lights in my SS stay on when the high beams are on? I know you could do this in the J-body. Any help will be appriciated!

I don't remember seeing anything in the manual about that. The only way I think you could do it is to fin the head light switch power wire and tap into the foglight power wire. Maybe!

I remember in the J-bodies you could do something with the relay to make them stay on. You know how when you hit you highbeams you foglight so out? These are stock SS foglights.

I've heard that it is illegal in some states to have your fogs on with your highbeams.

I'm not worried if it's illegal or not. I live in Canada and the cops where I live don't pay attention to that.

I know in most provinces in Canada, foglights are only illegal on when in city/town, Personaly i would install a switch, then you can have highs on without the fogs on aswell.

Hope this helps

I've been in a couple cars (isuzu rodeo, dodge neon) where you could have both the high and low beams on at the same time, by balancing the high-beam toggle right in the middle of being on and off (ie, click once and it's high beams only, click and hold it for both beams, then position it just so, so it balances and keeps both on)

Not possible in my ss/sc but thought i'd throw it out there. anyone else notice this? anyone know if this high + fog would be bad on the battery or fusebox, or anything?

Wouldn't holding a switch between its settings cause excessive wear on it, and cause damage.

This was discussed in a thread a while back in a grand prix forum.

I would think it would be a lot of strain on the wiring. Too much current through too small of a wire equals charcoal black car.

Not to hijack your thread, but I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to defeat the auto light feature so that we can drive with just the ambers and fogs on at night.

Step 1: Grab the knob on the end turn signal lever.
Step 2: Rotate said knob about 15 degress towards yourself
You will hear three chimes and your DIC will display "AUTO LIGHTS OFF"

Obviously you have not tried this otherwise you would realize you cannot turn the auto lights off when in motion.

Yep My SS/SC does this sometimes when I don't want it to. High/low and fogs all on at once. Its pretty bright but I never leave it like that. It can't be good for the switch and I don't feel like waiting for the dealer to change it........

OR turn the switch to parking lights and push the foglight button

BTW on a 2005 SS/SC you CAN turn the lights off while in motion

He may have a point since it may have something to do with the DRL relay. Most cars in the US do not require DRL's (daytime running lights).

Why would you want to do that, you live that far out in the sticks?. Nobody will even notice that your fogs are on cuz you'll have blinded them with your highbeams.

Not a chance, tryed it when I was camping so I didn't blind people on my drive back through the campsite, they go off but the second you start to move come back on, and the e-brake doesn't make them go off either. It probly does have something to do with the DRL here in Canada.

My car always does that. I do a paper route late friday nights in the rich parts of Stuart,FL and I always have to turn off my lights when I pull into businesses driveways because the residents get pissed when i shine the lights into their windows, lol. It's kinda cool to get out otf the car and just see fogs and ambers. You can just turn the light knob towards you past the auto light feature and it shuts them off. I think thats what you wanted to know.

In my car the autolight function can be turned off when I'm in motion. I usually use it when entering bases because the gate gaurds don't like being blinded when a car is pulling up to have their ID and tags checked.
