My CF trunk is looking hazy?

I have seen cf hoods that get that white look underneith the clear coat, and my trunk is starting to look hazy. Should I wet-sand to stop this or what? I dont want that to happen to my trunk.... it costed me lots of moniezz.

if you have never wetsanded before dont bother. you will mess something up. take it to a body shop. have them wetsand it down with a 1000 grit aned have it recleared.

did you have it cleared after you bought it? probablly not because most think theres a uv protected clear on there.......its either a scam or it doesnt do anything. all it is, is a clear gelcoat. all carbon fiber should be cleared with a high quality/high solids automotive clear to give the carbon a deeper gloss and a definate added protection against fading. if you dont clear carbon parts they will fade, or will become yellow in time due to the suns rays

Yes, I have actually taken 2 paint/autobody classes so I feel like i could do the sanding and take it somewhere to get the clear on. Just wetsanding it will get rid of the haze?

no it wont. wetsanding will haze up the entire trunk. have you wetsanded clear before? if you have you know it hazes up the panel until its buffed back out. basically you will be doing the same thing on your trunk. DO NOT BUFF IT WITHOUT HAVING IT CLEARED!

buffing cuts down the gelcoat on the carbon. eventually it leads to sun exposure and more fading and so forth. ill take a pic of my buddies evo hood from him having some dude go at it with a rotary. hoods trashed. oem carbon fiber wing is through the gelcoat to the twill.

wetsand it down with 1200 or 1000 grit, gray scuff the tail light pockets and all that hood stuff. have it cleared over. you will be a happier person in the end.

My CF hood was looking grey and hazy as well with 2 "white" spots. I threw some wax and elbow grease into it, and it looks and stays looking brand new. Give it a good coat of wax and see how it turns out. The "white" spots came from bird poo that I didn't get cleaned off soon enough. Stupid birds.

Yes I have wet sanded before, but I was only going to wet sand it if I was going to paint it. I am aware that it makes the whole thing look hazy. And a buffer is a no-no on jelcoat.

What tanelk said, I work in a shop and thats the best thing you can do, wet sanding wont get rid of the haze it needs to be re cleared. Or just buff it and see if that works just depends on how bad it is.

Well I bought the trunk used, and my guess is that it was not clear coated. Its a fully shaved one, I cant think of the name of the place that makes them of the top of my head. Xcellerated concept maybe?

DO NOT BUFF THE TRUNK!!!!!

seriously why dont people listen? im telling you right now. wax, wont work. you can try wetsanding and buffing but i DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. your just going to cut down the gelcoat and your trunks going to look like crap in a month or 2. buffing it down causes allows more uv exposure and will cause your twill to yellow or even crack if too much heat gets to it. gel coat is there to protect the twills and cutting it down takes away the protection. you use automotive clear to protect the gel coat from things like haze and such.

most of these companies use a cheap garbage clear. thats why all these companies only offer a 1 year warrenty against hazing and such. most wont fade in a year especially if its garage kept...give it a year and a half to 2 years boom it will start.

seriously just listen to what im saying. i work in a body shop/performance shop and i work with this crap all the time. if you let it get worse then you might aswell paint the trunk. spend the money and protect your investment.

So what do you think I need to do to get rid of it, wetsand and clear it? Cuz if it needs clear, it will have to be sanded correct?

I was just giving him my advice im not familiar with carbon Fiber, If you guys with experience are saying dont buff it then I wont argue with you. So my guess it wasnt cleared.

get it cleared it will go away. if you need to reclear it, it needs to be sanded lightly and scuffed so that it appears to not be shiney anymore. just take it to a body shop and have them reclear it for you.

I know not free, anything autobody related is usually pricey, labor and materials.

Please stop spreading lies about our products. They are absolutely cleared coated, and we use PPG clear. It would be considered false advertising if we did not. So please be more careful of what you say if you do not know what you are talking about.
