My little project...
My little project...
So, it started out a nice sunny day, and I decided my gray grille was annoying, and it needed to be black. A couple coats of primer, and it was ready for the black paint. Well, I lay one coat of black, and go back inside to browse my favorite **** sites (mainly this site), and all of the sudden, the wind picks up. GREAT! So, there is dust in all of my paint. I figured maybe a couple more coats and a few coats of clear would mask it well enough, but, even more dust got in there when i opened the garage door (I WAS smart enough to move it inside).
So, I decided to say eff it, and go totally custom. I HATE how the outer side of the grille is textured, because it traps wax and ****, so I decided to make it all smooth, then repaint it. I also decided to get rid of the stupid mesh in the grilles too.
So, I started with THIS.
Did this.
Smoothed a bit (quite a bit).
And, right now this is what I have.
I am waiting for a bit more of the glazing putty to dry, then I am going to do some final touch up sanding, and it will be ready for primer. This time, I will be doing it IN the garage, and NO doors will be opened. So far, I have about 8 hours into the project (after screwing it up), so, NO, I will not do this for anyone, for any price under $300. So, if you want to pay me that, plus shipping me your old grille, and shipping back to you, don't bother asking. My patience is worth alot of money, because it is very, VERY rare.

this is horrible, you defaced your car, it looks ricer, and the ss/tc grille was the best option out there
and no one is going to ship their grille to you to 'fix'

I am glad you don't like it, and I am glad you don't own my car. FOAD.
Ignore the haters. Not worth your time.
I thought about that, but I kinda like the center section. Just helps make the car a Chevy, ya know. Thanks for the kind word, it took me a long time to get it just right, and i just sprayed the first coat of primer. We'll see how it turns out. Worse comes to worse, I have to order a new one, lol (doubt that will happen).
why didn't you just get the front grills off 07's from the wreckers and sold your TC grills? ppl here would've bought them for sure...you would've turn a profit.... Or you could've traded with someone and made them happy.

Yeah, I didn't know I was going to cut up my grille either. I intended on painting it, got half way through it, and the paint got ruined, so rather than trying to fix all the mesh, I did this. Either way, it wouldn't have been sellable.
Thanks for the comments guys... i should be able to get it all painted tomorrow, then hopefully put back on this weekend.

Paint can always be removed...I've used Easy Off oven spray to remove paint...it won't harm plastic and it takes off paint completely..it degreases too. I hope you don't zip-tie mesh grills.....that would be going backwards...
I am not going to put something directly on the grille, I am trying to figure out something I could mount closer to the radiator, and spray black so you can't see it right off the bat.
I want to, but I am taking my radiator's life into consideration. The grille most certainly will stay open, there is no doubt about that, but I might try to find something I can put about an inch away from the radiator/condenser to absorb the impact in case a rock or something gets thrown up there. This isn't a daily driver anyway, so the chances are slim, but I don't want ot **** up my radiator either...
