Neon/Led Question

Im looking to do some interior and exterior Red neon. More than likely Interior first, just maybe up under the dash or under the seats so the back lights up as well, Id like to have a switch on it, Does anyone know a good how to on this, searched this site couldnt find one. Anyone know any good places to get led or neon, any advice and or how to wire up switches and where to hardwire it to? Thanks guys!

I don't know of a how too but it's easy. You can get LED strips at car parts stores such as autozone or wherever. You can individual LEDs at radio shack. You will need a resistor if you do the individuals. I think a general rule is 3 LEDs per 1 resistor but that varies on the LED size.

I don't have pictures but here's a quick how too.

1)take off fuse box panel on right side (passanger) of center console.
2)Find your sunroof fuse or something similar that turns the power off and on with the key and use that socket.
3)place your LEDs and run the power wire to the fuse box.
4)Find a good grounding source (there are a couple in the fuse box)
Your done.

If you want to buy a switch simply by one and mount it inline with the power wire. You can mount it anywhere.

Good luck and it's super easy so don't worry about it.

Here's a really crappy pictures of my LEDs shining on my pedals

I didnt run mine off a switch but a good idea if your going to have multiple neons is to get the ones that have a cigarette plug and connect them all to 4 plug adapter something like this and then just hardwire the adapter to the car. Thats what I did and it worked out perfect. I can get pics if your interested.

Yeah, I'm running two strips so about 30 LEDs off one fuse. If you go to an autoparts store you can get something called "add a circut" that plugs right into the fuse box and adds another fuse and power wire tap to the box. It's cheap and makes things easy.

The main adapter sits in my glove box where, my radar detector and my neon lights plug into. Then I hardwired that to the car so now when ever the car is on the detector + lights turn on too. Here are the pics.

Ive personaly used the radio fuse. So if i Know my radio doesnt turn on, i blew a fuse or shorted somethin out.

Out of all the extensive wiring ive done on any car, the best advice I can give you is take your time, do it right.

Its much more rewarding taking the time to hide the wires, button it up so nothing is visible. Looks alot more professional, and is guarenteed to win you more car shows than having neon tubes sitting there, with wires hanging there looking like ass.

That's some good advice. I took a while to do mine because I did a lot of hiding. I have a cousin who did his in a hurry and honestly the wires and visible tubes really detracts from the over all look.
