New E-brake
Good on Ya.....pics definately!!!, I would like to see what you got that fits. Did you have to cut off the inside piece, drill out the new handle or anything, did you get the boot from crappy tire also?????
Definately a nicer feel when using than the stock brick.
Definately a nicer feel when using than the stock brick.
What year BMW convertible boot did you use?
I don't remember what size it was, just picked it off the shelf and installed it, and it fit, didn't realise there were different sizes, sorry i cant help with that one.
E-Brake handle installation instructions
Items needed:
1) Short flat-blade screwdriver
2) A Dremel drill (sanding/cutting bits will be needed)
3) A Momo e-Brake handle (I used a Momo Pit Stop Steel) with removable rubber button hole/adapter.
4) E-Brake leather boot (I used a generic boot, but BMW boots can be found on ebay cheaply and are high quality)
Step 0) PLACE BRICKS UNDER THE TIRES OF YOUR CAR.
Step 1) Remove the panel under the parking brake. There's no screws holding it down, so just gently pull at the various edges until the tabs release so that it can be pulled out.
Step 2) Remove the brake handle. You will need a short flat-blade screwdriver to do this. Insert the screw-driver into the hole under the handle and twist until the tab releases, allowing you to pull the handle off.
Step 3) You should now have access to the handle skeleton. If you try inserting the Momo handle at this point, you will notice that there are some plastic guides/tabs that will prevent it from being inserted fully. These will need to be Dremelled off. I recommend dremelling off the long 4" plastic tab on the top, and also the lip on the left and right sides. When done, all sides should be flush. Note that I didn't dremel off the locking tab on the bottom so that I can put the "brick" handle back on in case I ever want to go back to stock.
Step 4) Slip your leather boot over the skeleton.
Step 5) Place the panel back on.
Step 6) Take the rubber button hole from your Momo handle and see if it fits with your e-brake release button. It should not be snug, it needs to be at least a little loose. If it is tight, you will need to use the dremel (or other tool of your choice) to enlarge the hole until it fits comfortably.
Step 7) Insert the rubber hole into your Momo handle and slide the handle onto the e-brake skeleton. Chances are it still will not fit properly. This is likely because the rubber hole is too long. Depending on which hole adapter you purchased or whichever one came with your Momo, you will need to shorten it. Remove it from the handle and use your dremel (or a hacksaw) to shorten as needed.
Step 8) When satisfied with fitment of hole and handle, insert the included hex screws into the tightening holes of the handle. Screw down the top first, then tighten left and right sides (I recommend not screwing in the bottom hole), checking carefully as you tighten to make sure that the handle remains positioned to your satisfaction.
The finished result:

To my knowledge you do not need one. Momo that is, at least the ones that were for sale in the GB.
