What's with all the ricer bashing? So what would you call our cars? I'd call them domestic rice. Your telling me gm wasn't trying to capitalize on the "ricer"trend when they developed the SS cobalt? Let me think. Small displacement 4 cylinder check. Turbo/ supercharger/ check big non functional wing .check. FWD check. Even the styling looks like its trying to imitate various imports.who really cares let people do what they want to do with their cars lol

Yes but our cars are acutally pretty quick. Fully bolted jettas and Civics are much slower and annoying than Cobalts.

Agreed, I always call mine an American ricer. But the SS Highrise wing is actually somewhat functional.

I'm not bashing our cars cause I know mine is quick. However most the time these civics you run into have a $20 eBay exhaust and a $20 eBay intake and they call it performance. I have an 02 si and it is nowhere near as fast as my ss/tc cobalt. However I have blown the doors off may a ss/sc cobalt in it. But its got more bolt ons that simply a cheap exhaust. Bottom line is that our cars were modeled to imitate the imports and draw in the tuner crowd so gm could capitalize on this fast and furious trend. So they are no more than domestic rice if you look at the bigger picture.

I know where I live all the kids think neon colors are cool to paint their car with...therefore Ricer colors

Not to rltroll here, but I believe the original concept of a spoiler is to create downforce to put the car down onto the road to the wheels that are propelling. The car stay on the ground and maintain traction. Seeing as these are fwd cars and the spoiler is on the back I don't see how it has a purpose other than cosmetic. Me, I love the look of the larger spoiler that came factory and would love to have one on my car. I completes the lines imo but is functionless other than cosmetics as I stated.

I was simply talking about ricer bashing and how our cars design IMO is clearly derived from imitation of imports. Someone else talked trash on civics and vdubs and dragged them into the conversation.

It isn't just about pushing down on the driven wheels for straight line traction. These cars are light in the ass (60/40 split distribution). It's about stability and keeping that ass planted so it doesn't kick out at speed. There are other threads here, but the wing does produce X downforce at Y speed. I just don't remember exactly what the numbers are. I'm not suggesting that it is important and that a huge impact is made I'm just saying that the highrise is somewhat functional. To how much I'm not sure.

It's not enough downforce to pull the front end up. Just to keep the rear end planted through corners. But our spoilers only cause drag and help nothing.
