newb question with shift knob

hey guys sorry stupid question, but not sure if im going to break something with my stock shift knob. anyways I was just driving the other day and all of a sudden it popped off. I tried putting it back on, but then it never went all the way down. I tried forcing it down further, but there still like 1/4 of in inch space in bettween the knob and the reverse trigger. anyway how can I get it in all the way without breaking anything??? thanks in advance guys!

do you have the spring that goes between the knob and the reverse trigger? If I remember right there should be a groove that the reverse trigger goes into the knob.

there should be a screw on top of the knob under the top gear pattern that holds it down

Im not sure if im missing something but I don't see any screw underneath the top gear pattern. All I have is the spring the I put on the steel rod and the knob that has the hole underneath to put the rod in. =S

the top plastic piece pops of (with the silver shift pattern on it) and a torx head screw goes under it to hold the shift knob down on top of the shaft. sound like your missing it

You have a 05 or 06 dont you. Those shift knobs are pressed on. I think the 07s have a TORX screw.

I have an 05 and mine used to pop off all the time. There was NO screw holding it on, it was just pressed down. Take some contact cement put it on the shifter and pound the knob back on. I did that about 2 months ago and it hasn't popped off since.

you'll be fine. just put some cement on it, take your fist and pound down on it a few times, works like a charm. you can't hit it hard enough to cause any damage.
