Couple things:
1. In the process of becoming a Sheriff Deputy and need to keep the car legal.
2. Warranty

Basically any mods under the hood that aren't stock. In the academy, they make you write your own tickets for modified parts.

so you're saying that ANYONE who has done ANYTHING to their car that isn't factory...is technically driving an illegal vehicle??? something seems wrong with that.

Sorry but that's just not true and "modified parts" are not always illegal.

Okay, with the exception of parts with CARB #s. Some intakes maybe. But most aftermarket does not have CARB #s.

Here's some quick ones.

Hahn CoolRam Air
Hahn Intercooler
Hahn Charge Piping
AEM Cold Air
Hahn Exhaust (yes, even though it does meet the 95 deci.)
Dejon Charge / Intercooler / etc

you get my point

REMEMBER, I'm in CALI!!! My state's vehicle codes are different from other states.

their the opposite where i live, r34 skyline's are supposed to illegal here, vehicles that are imported have to be 15 years or more. i spotted one nearby a few times over the past few months. not only that, but during the grand prix, modded cars drive through the downtown area revving their engines, almost all modded, with police on the streets, who do nothing about it lol. speeding and parking tickets is the only part of their job their diligent about when it comes to cars

It does depend where you are. Some cops are harsh when it comes to modified cars, some worry about other things. Doesn't change the fact that it's illegal. To know what's legal or not, read your state's vehicle code.

Google, could be found at bookstore (probably law section), you can always stop by your local PD station and ask. They may even give you a copy of a section you inquire about.

I'm originally from cali and because I go home on leave and such I was looking into the vehicle codes there to make sure that I couldn't get in trouble for anything on my car...I could find NOTHING to indicate that aftermarket parts were illegal...the only thing that I could find was about nitrous. easy enough....I disconnect the bottle while I cali...but can they cite me for driving an out of state car wit mods? I'm curious because I will be in cali in april...

The vehicle code doesn't directly say aftermarket parts. For example: If you have an intake w/o a carb number, the cop may write you up for "equipment for modified use" or "modified emission devices." The vehicle code, like any law book, uses the english language in a general sense to be able to cover a broad spectrum of categories for the peace officer to use. I do believe there's some codes regarding intakes and headers themselves, the rest generally will go under the ones mentioned above. Like i've said, best would be to read or simply ask your local PD. If the officer wants, he could cite you just to give you a hard time. Most won't though considering you only visiting and your vehicle is legal within YOUR state's vehicle code. All at the discretion of the officer.
