Nightshade question

I tried to use nightshade and tint my tail lights. Now I did the side markers and they came out really good. The I moved on to the reverse lights and I ran into a problem. I put two coats on the light but it did not go very well I guess it ran a little bit and it cracked as it was drying. To make a long story short ( i know too late ) but I can not get this stuff of the lense. I used goof off and laquer thinner and this stuff will not come off. I need some help quickly. I am going to tackle this again tomorrow, any help will be greatly appreciated.

I did use the write up on how to tint your tail lights in 10 steps but i seemed to mess it up quite well.

You'll probably have to sand it down.

Yea, it sounds like the easiest thing would be to sand it down good, just make sure to use a high grit paper before painting it again, this way you dont see the little scratches from rougher paper.

Go progressively. Start out with something like 120, sand it good to get out the cracks, then move to 320, and finish with about 600 before painting again. It will look fine.

There is your answer.

600 would just get caked up before you could even make any progress.

Go very light on the coats and give them ample time to dry in between. Be patient and it will come out fine.

Use a bunch of light coats. I did 4 coats on mine. Granted, they are pretty dark, but I use light coats. You can always put more on, you cant (as you have demonstrated well) take any off. Lol.

Spray painting take practice, dont worry if your not great, I remember the first couple things I painted. Lol.. Painting running down everywhere.. Its better now though.

I re did my lights today and i started with 80 grit sandpaper and i worked up to 2000 grit. Then I went and tinted them with a couple coats and put some clear coat on them. They came out great.

Another piece of advice for the future....use wet-or-dry sandpaper (all grits come in it). Then run a constant but very low stream of water over your lense while you sand it. It will make the sandpaper last longer and help to prevent the "caking".

Haha yeah I just recently failed my state safety inspection cause of the tint. Spent so much time trying to get it off with paint thinner, then lacquer thinner. Gave up and just wet sanded the hell out of them and bought some new ones from members here

You failed? Don't they show up when you brake or did you just go WAYYYYY overboard?
