Opening Recaro Seats

Hey all, I just picked up an 06 SS/SC, and I love the car...except...well, I'm a wider guy, just big in general.

I drove the SS, seats were nice and tight, which was great...until I had to drive it home.

Needless to say, my flanks were sore after the hour drive home. Now, I know I could stand to lose 20-30 lbs, but this is kind of lame. Is there any way that people have been able to "open" up the seats? I'm not talking a lot of space, maybe 1/2 inch or 1 Inch.

I have an uncle who is an upholsterer, but I don't want to have to open the seats up and cut the foam if I don't have to.

Thanks fellas

Yea the Recaro's are deff a little more snug. Your best bet is selling them, then getting other seats.

Try pulling the side bolsters out with your hands, I did this with my standard seats, except I pushed them in for a tighter fit for me, but will work the same way for you. You want to actually pull on the metal frame work of the seat underneath the padding.

Yeah! That's what I've tried to do a little bit, kind of like some of those Aluminum drag racing seats. I don't know what gauge steel it is, so it could be tough.

I don't know. He may. And technically, he's my great-uncle, so he's getting up there in years, but he may, I dunno.

Yeah...about that... I could stand to lose some weight, but where it's pushing is right on my ribs, and their isn't much fat there...just around the waist.

Oh, and to all who say selling...well, lets just hope it doesn't get to that, but I'm glad for your wonderful insight

i dont know if the recaros adjust like the ss/tc seats, but i could raise the seat up high enough that the bolsters were at the bottom of my ribs. i had to lower my seat so it would hold me in lol

I would try to get some SS/TC seats, they are a bit wider, and a better seat then the SS/SC non-recaros. Im sure someone would trade too. I personally love the Recaros, but im tiny. I despise the SS/TC seats, they are way too big for me but would probably provide you with the comfort you are looking for and are still racing style inspired.

Lose some weight fatty, its a win - win - win situation for you... (Better health, keep your recaros, don't have to pay to mod your recaros)

^ You do realize it takes time to loose weight anyway, so even if you say he should, whats he supposed to do? Stay in pain for a few months untill he got the weight off?

Loosing weight would be a good idea, but till then, trading for SS seats would be good.
