Question Paint over Plastidip??

I hate the dull look of plastidip and was wondering what would I happen if I painted over it on my wheels?? Theres at least 4 coats on each wheel..Im just wanting to go gloss black

I've seen 1 person do it on here. I looked just fine but I never heard anything about the peeling off process.

I've tried doing it on a peice of scrap metal I have and unless you get the dip on there real thick it doesnt like to peel off nicely. It still came off when the dip was a bit thin but it took a lot longer to peel off and it came in small chunks.

The plastidip won't peel like its supposed to. I did and it took about two days to get it all off. We did my buddies with no paint over it in about an hour lol

Good call. The more coats the better/easier to remove

I have a buddy here in AZ that does this all the time, changes colors almost monthly. He uses the PD as a "primer" puts it on pretty thick. LIke 4 or 5 coats, then sprays over it with whatever color he decides to use.

im going to try it. Mainly because of the massive dissapointment that glossifer plastidip has become.

Not sure if everyone knows about it, but guys are putting 5 coats of gloss on, getting a perfect shrowroom gloss finish and having it gone within 4 months. It becomes "etched" by dirt/grease and other materials. even when thoroughly cleaned it loses gloss.

Why don't you just get a plasti dip gloss can and spray over your already plasti dipped wheels?

There's not black plasti dip gloss. There's just a glossifier that you spray over the plasti dip....I think

I plastic dipped mine.....4x coat on each and i still think i have red paint on cracks in my rims. Its a pain to get off. I thought about painting over it too doing a white(kinda as a base) then seeing how well the paint sticks and holds up to it. Goodluck just know it will be a pain to take off

I did it before I painted my wheels and it didn't come off at all, that's what lead me to just painting them. The paint on my wheels like actually bonded with my plastidip and made it a PITA to come off. I scrapped at it for 4 hours on 1 wheel and it was barely off. I finally said eff it and grabbed some aircraft paint remover and went to town. My car looks better than ever now though....

Define ”weren't that bad”.. Did you need to touch them up because of chipping? Any idea if it's hard to remove with just the clear over the plasti dip?

glossifier plasti dip is basically gloss plastidip..same thing. I dipped my wheels like in feb. 5 coats. and did like 3-4 coats of glossifier over it. glossifier didnt really make it "glossy" just idk a little shine to it i guess. not what i expected at all. so far its held up fine and looks the same as the day that i sprayed it on. well aside from one wheel where i accidently got some wd40 on it. it left like a stain on it or something. but other than that they look the same when i wash them. im thinking of trying to paint over them to see how it looks. if i dont like it ill just go aircraft remover on it and then try and polish the wheels
