Painted calipers today.
My friend John bought me the Dupli-Color Caliper Paint kit for my birthday, today we finally got around to doing it.
First step: get the car up on jacks.
Step two: take off the wheels.
Step three: Use fancy spray can to clean off brakes.
Step four: Tape off vital parts.
Step five: Keep the garage well ventilated because the paint is BADASS and TOXIC.
Step whatever number I'm on: Mix paint.
Step twenty-six: PAINT!
Step eighteen: replace the crappy paintbrush they provided in the kit with one that won't fall apart.
Step nintey-two: Paint s'mores.
First coat. By the time we worked our way around the car, the brake we started on was ready for a second coat.
Step twelve: Keep myself entertained while John does all the work.

I don't understand why so many people paint the calipers and then leave the rotors all
rusty and un-treated. Here is how I did mine. It only takes a few minutes more to do each rotor.

I bought a can of rust-oleum primer and a can of Aluminum.
Unbolt the calipers (2 bolts each) and hang them from your coil spring with a coat hanger or some wire so they dont stretch the hose. Remove the 2 washers that hold the rotor in place. (these can be thrown away. They are only used for holding the rotor in place on the assembly line.) Slide the rotor off. Mask off the rotor so you dont get any paint on the machined surface. Shoot the primer and then the color. Some rust-oleum paints are made to be sprayed directly over the rust. Just knock off any excess with a wire brush and have at it. Actually takes about 15 minutes each once the wheels are off.

ive never heard of anyone painting the rotors before.
and IROCZ0r that is not a good idea at all to leave the car jacked up with the factory jacks, not safe at all. they are merely meant for supporting part of the weight and shifting the rest over to the other side of the car, like during a tire change. id invest in some jackstands real soon if you plan on lifting the car up again

oh and to stay on topic, I agree with what hatrickstu said. go to advanced auto or Napa or any auto parts store and invest in a floor jack and jackstands. they dont need to be the huge ones you see NASCAR guys use (or so Ive been told). You can get a smaller floor jack and two good jack stands for under $30. Much safer.

helty man i am going to centerville on the 25th most likely, mainly because my dad and i are working on getting our camaro back in better running condition, and want to see how it runs.
and by the way its a 1970.5 Z28, numbers matching!

However, we only used the factory jack for one wheel. The other three were out of my friends' trucks, and I'm sure they're good for more weight than the factory's.

My gf's sister and nieces are in town so I'll undoubtedly have to drag my ass over there with our new puppy. He'll probably bite one of the kids and I'll get slapped with a lawsuit. And last but not least, I'll probably grab a 30 pack and make a day out of it.
